Grande is looking for candidates to fill the position of Quality Control Manager, Senior. This position reports to the Corporate Quality Control Manager, Senior and will work out of our flagship, world-class, cheesemaking and whey processing facility in Brownsville, Wisconsin.

The Quality Control Manager, Senior will be responsible for:

  • Product safety, quality control and regulatory duties including but not limited to; on-site facility audits, training, process and program maintenance and development, quality initiatives and product testing programs
  • Leadership and Associate development for a department of 14 Quality Associates including 2 direct reports
  • Oversight and maintenance of the facility SQF Level 3 program
  • Responsibility for food safety and quality of two on-site cheese processing operations and one on-site whey processing operation

We envision a successful candidate having an education and background in food science, quality management or a related discipline as well as a broad range of quality control experience and knowledge in food manufacturing facilities. In addition, the candidate must possess past experience leading and managing a large group of Quality Associates. A successful candidate will have significant knowledge of federal, state and local food and water regulations and food safety certifications in a GFSI-approved scheme, HACCP and PCQI.

1st Major Area of Responsibility – Product Safety & Quality Control/Regulatory (Key Duties)

  • Provide leadership and expertise for food safety, quality and compliance within the facility. Manage quality initiatives, establish best practices, and implement programs to support current and new product and process development.
  • Lead plant inspection activities with government & regulatory agencies. Responsible for ensuring compliance within the facility.
  • Manage food safety and quality programs (HACCP, SQF) and ensure immediate action is taken to identify and resolve food safety/defense issues. Has back-up responsibilities for, and is backed up by, as defined by the Facility Org Chart and Back-up Responsibilities chart.
  • Develop, coordinate, and participate in annual training.
  • Ensure documentation files are complete and maintained on all HACCP deviations, corrective actions and outcomes. Initiate discussion with plant Associates to develop proactive approaches to reduce the chance of a repeat occurrence.
  • Provide leadership with mock recall and business continuity planning.

2nd Major Area of Responsibility – Quality Control (Key Duties)

  • Develop, analyze, and communicate data and information concerning product quality performance.
  • Manage quality audits of the plant and coordination of required corrective actions.
  • Maintain and monitor quality assurance surveillance programs (water, air, etc.) and coordinate any corrective actions.
  • Develop and monitor in-process testing programs (moisture, butter fat, salt, Ph, ATP) and coordinate appropriate responses to unfavorable trends or results.
  • Monitor and validate calibration programs for equipment (thermometers, RTD, in-process test equipment).
  • Development and continuous improvement of SOP’s, SSOP’s, Pre-requisite program, critical processing specifications, and electronic collection of production data.
  • Review site status with CCIPQ.
  • Lead and direct the implementation of lean six sigma tools for continuous improvement.
  • Develop, maintain and share reports that clearly summarize and communicate information on product quality, in-process test results, and comparison/calibration data.
  • Partner with others in Operations Management and the Quality Assurance/Technology team and collaborate to increase product quality and safety.

3rd Major Area of Responsibility – Leadership (Key Duties)

  • Supervise Associates by means of coaching/mentoring, training, discipline, performance management, conflict resolution, etc., while fostering a positive work environment that encourages teamwork, pride, and a continuous improvement mentality.
  • Set clear department goals and communicate expectations to Associates on a regular basis.
  • Provide guidance to facilitate learning and growth, enhance skills & knowledge, and improve performance.
  • Ensure Associate compliance with company policies and procedures.
  • Proactively address Associate questions, concerns, or problems.

4th Area of Responsibility – All other duties and responsibilities as requested or required (Key Duties)

  • A mobile phone is required for this position.

  • Bachelor's degree in Food Science, Quality Management, or related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Certified Quality Manager designation a plus.


  • 8 or more years related experience, preferably in a food manufacturing industry.
  • Knowledge of SQF and other quality regulations, codes, and standards required.
  • Knowledge of Federal, State, and Local food and water regulations, including CFR, FSMA, the PMO, and Bioterrorism Act.
  • Six sigma and/or lean manufacturing experience desirable.

  • Advanced project management, leadership, and delegation skills; able to lead projects, assign tasks and achieve results through others
  • Knowledge of manufacturing and engineering processes.
  • Organized and detail oriented
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office suite, basic experience with laboratory software and manufacturing databases
