seafood. We are seeking a Food Technologist to become the newest member of
our R&D Team. The position will be based out of our Portsmouth, NH
You will be responsible for
applying scientific and engineering principles in research, development,
production technology, quality control, packaging, processing and utilization
of foods to design develop and producing new and/or improved products. This
position plays a major role in the creation of new products and therefore
plays an important part in supporting HLF’s overall strategic goals.
As a Food Technologist, a
typical day might include the following: • Leading New Product Development
and/or Product Optimization through Innovation Engineering.
- Preparing samples for Cooking
Instruction Development, Nutritional Calculations/ Analysis, Product
Photography, Shelf-Life Studies, Product Cuttings, Packaging
Development, Focus Groups etc.
- Generating preliminary product
specs and information for costing as requested by Sales and/ or
- Coordinating, designing,
executing, and analyzing the results of Line Tests.
- Working closely with QA,
Production, and GSM teams to generate tentative and final product specs.
- Monitoring 1st
production runs of New Products until manufacturing can achieve target
costs (run rate, yields, etc.) while maintaining desired product
- Providing technical support for
all internal and external customers.
- Maintaining a thorough
understanding of US Food Labeling Laws and Regulations.
- Assisting HLF efforts with
ingredient consolidation, product line rationalization and cost
reduction projects. • Collaborating with Quality Assurance, Production,
Purchasing, Procurement and Engineering when quality issues are clearly
identified to ensure proper investigations are conducted; root cause
analysis are performed, corrective actions are taken
and preventative actions are established to prevent the recurrence of
- Assisting with troubleshooting
manufacturing and/or product performance issues by focusing in the area of methods, materials, man power and machinery.
• Generating, adjusting and expediting purchase orders for assigned
commodities insuring inventory levels are aligned with production
schedule requirements. • Making sound purchasing decisions that avoid
price variances, minimize inventory levels and maximize turns. •
Sourcing, evaluating and recommending new suppliers and materials that
help generate cost savings or reduce usage. • Resolving supplier
performance issues on a timely basis to the satisfaction of Sales,
Marketing, Quality Assurance and Manufacturing.
