The Discovery Technologist practices and encourages creativity to drive technical solutions and solve technical problems while considering standard procedures and principles. They will execute assignments designed to result in new culinary and early product prototypes with guidance, while providing technical support across the Discovery & Advanced Coffee Science discipline.

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Work in JMS labs to create new product prototypes and culinary models for upstream projects
  • Leverage food science principles to formulate, analyze results, and make recommendations
  • Perform general lab maintenance, labeling of ingredients and experimental prototypes
  • Submit samples for analytical and quality testing to internal labs
  • Learn and participate in various styles of ideation and knowledge capture
  • Generate culinary models and learning prototypes for early consumer learning
  • Convert culinary recipes and ideal product models to defined product success criteria
  • Keep all experimental records in electronic lab notebook
  • Ability to work on multiple product and prototype models under a “Test and Learn” environment to support the efforts of the Discovery team
  • Learn and gain experience in sensory evaluations of products, prepare and ready products for Consumer Evaluations like taste or use testing
  • Perform work assignments in accordance with Serv Safe standards applicable to personal hygiene, food preparation, handling and disposal. (i.e. Good Laboratory Practices and Good Manufacturing Practices)
  • Support the Discovery and Advanced Coffee Science Team in all prototype development needs

 

SELECTION CRITERIA

Education

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Food Science is required; a Master’s Degree is preferred

Experience

  • Previous R&D experience is preferred

Other

  • Applies Food Science principles to solve technical challenges
  • GLP and GMP experience
  • Technical writing skills
  • Adaptive to potential rapid changing priorities
  • Must be willing to taste black coffee, sweet & creamy beverages, and other beverages with potential dairy, tree nut, peanut, soy, egg, and gluten allergens
  • Efficient time management skills and capacity to multi-task
  • Willingness to travel up to 10%
