Job Description

Logic Staffing is currently recruiting a Food Laboratory Manager for a local client company. This is a salaried/full-time position - NOT a temporary role.

This is an immediate opening, thus ONLY local candidates will be considered for this position.

The Laboratory Manager will be responsible for managing the overall day to day operations of the laboratory department. This will included but not limited to laboratory efficiencies, vendor relations, inventory control, LEAN process implementation, employee safety and regulatory compliance.

General Responsibilities:

  • R&D bench work formulation of new products; improvements to existing products; using existing or newly discovered ingredients and techniques
  • Develop cost effective production process for the commercialization of new products and improvements to how existing products are manufactured
  • Develop specifications for finished goods, raw materials and packaging
  • Evaluation of new packaging and/or new suppliers
  • Member of Food Defense Team, understand Hazard Analysis Critical Control Points (HACCP) and GFSI standards
  • Assist Director with customer audits
  • Participate as a team member at monthly Plant QA-Production Meetings and other meetings as needed
  • Trouble shooting when errors in production occur and determining disposition of product (rework, hold, etc.)
  • Assist with microbiological testing of finished product, raw materials, and environmental swabs
  • Shelf-life testing
  • Assist in investigation of customer complaints and assist in decisions for disposition of product

Fundamental knowledge of:

  • Product development process sample acquisition, formulation, testing, bench to commercialization process
  • Heat and Mass Transfer Modeling
  • Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics
  • Shelf-life and Sensory Testing
  • Pantone Matching System Color Correctness
  • Lab Equipment - Spectrophotometer, pH Meter, Brix, Viscometer, Moisture Analyzer

Education/Experience:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Food Science and Technology
  • Working knowledge and familiarity with laboratory or food production.
  • Working knowledge of budgets and financial statements preferred
  • Laboratory Operations Management: 5 years (Required)
  • Production Management: 5 years (Required)
  • Experience working in the manufacturing industry: 5 years (Required)

Schedule:

  • M-F with some weekends as needed
  • Some travel 10% or less required
