JOB TITLE:  Quality Assurance Manager  
REPORTS TO:    Quality Assurance Sr. Manager

This position is responsible for ensuring the accurate and timely testing of raw materials, in-process and finished products, planning, directing and implementing quality programs to ensure the highest standards of quality that meet customer specifications, in accordance with company policies and procedures.

• Ensuring the accurate and timely testing of raw materials, in process and finished products to meet customer and company quality standards.
• Overseeing the appropriate collection, analysis and distribution of testing data.
• Acting as a technical resource and liaison between the department, operations and government agencies to address and resolve inquiries and problems, including performing CIP troubleshooting through laboratory testing, or direct involvement.
• Ensuring all aspects of maintaining the laboratory’s certification.
• Reviewing and report testing results to management, regulatory agencies, the field staff and patrons, ensuring all required reports, records, documentation, etc. are completed, maintained and distributed according to procedures and agency regulations.
• Conducting environmental sampling program to ensure the plant remains pathogen free, including evaluating and determining root cause when problems arise and provide recommendations for resolution.
• Serving as plant Certified Industry Supervisor for Appendix N Bulk Load Screening Program, including ordering necessary testing supplies and maintain equipment and training intake personnel in proper testing procedures.
• Working with Field Service personnel to resolve patron quality and sanitation problems, including working with milk haulers to guarantee proper milk sampling and monitor plant testing for patrons working on milk quality problems.
• Overseeing the maintenance of the lab and related test equipment, including calibration, repair, servicing ordering supplies, training personnel as needed.
• Managing customer complaint program, including responding to customer complaints in a timely manner and participate in formulation of corrective measures.
• Preparing for and participating in customer and internal audits, serving as a technical resource in areas of food safety and company food safety programs.
• Conducting plant inspections to include building and grounds, sanitation, GMP, housekeeping, HACCP, maintenance and safety and reporting outcomes as appropriate.
• Assisting plant management in overseeing compliance to corporate quality procedures including prerequisites, HACCP, GMP, hold and release, food security and product tracing and recall, revising procedures as necessary.
• Responsible for environmental reporting.
• Serving as Food Defense Coordinator
• Providing backup for the lab personnel and SQF Practitioner.
• Regular and punctual attendance and physical presence in the workplace.
• Timely and accurate completion of duties.
• Occasional/frequent/continually travel for work, up to xx% of the time.

• Computer Skills:   Ability to operate all information technology related business systems, programs and applications in a manner that achieves efficiency, accuracy, and relevancy of information processing and reporting as it applies to this position.
• Language Skills:  Ability to read and interpret documents such as dictated letters or memoranda, invoices, company policies and various documentation, paying particular attention to grammar.  Ability to process routine reports and correspondences.  Ability to communicate effectively with employees customers and others.  Ability to effectively present information. 
• Mathematical Skills:  Ability to correctly add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.  Ability to correctly compute rate, ratio, and percent.
• Reasoning Ability:  Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.  Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
• Other Skills & Abilities: Requires the ability to operate a variety of standard business machines, such as a computer and keyboard, calculator, FAX, photocopier, telephone, postage machine, paper shredder, scanner, etc.  The ability to drive a motor vehicle, and maintaining a valid driver’s license. Must be a practicing SQF Practitioner and must ensure compliance with SQF 2000 code.

• Work Environment – Employee is occasionally exposed to risk of electrical shock wet and/or humid conditions, fumes or airborne participles.  The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
• Protective Equipment – No protective equipment is generally required.  List PPE if required.


This position requires a Bachelor Degree in Food Science or related field of study, knowledge related to the job and five to ten years of job-related experience.


This position directly supervises all hourly laboratory personnel.  Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
