We planted our roots in Newark, New Jersey during the Great Depression, selling premium nuts on Mulberry Street’s open air market.  We’ve come quite a long way since then, taking our multigenerational family business online in 1999. The role 


We are looking to bring remarkably bright and passionate people together to find even better ways to engage our employees, develop their skills and knowledge, to service our existing customers and to grow our brand.  We sell the best quality products that we can find and we adhere to strict standards for food safety and quality.  We have recently completed our SQF level 2 certification but every day we work to improve.  We are looking for a seasoned manager to continue to build out and refine these programs.  The successful candidate will have deep experience, excellent technical knowledge and well developed leadership and management skills.

What you'll do

  • Ensure conformance with company quality policy, quality management and food safety programs
  • Verify that all Food Safety, Quality Assurance and Regulatory programs are functioning as designed, being followed and correctly documented – thus ensuring the facility has the “regulatory evidence” required to prove they have produced safe and quality products
  • Provide strategic planning and analysis of current quality, food safety and operational policies and procedures
  • Assess customer complaints and resolves food safety and product quality related issues
  • Review the current policies and procedures and creates plans to improve upon the existing quality and food safety programs
  • Ensure that all policies, procedures, documents, and labeling comply with federal, state, local and international regulations and industry standards
  • Ensure FSMA regulatory compliance by making regulatory and scientifically defendable decisions that do not result in unjustified decreases in operational productivity or efficiency
  • Facilitate the resolution of complex quality issues by quickly and thoroughly investigating a product/process failure, determine the root cause and takes prompt corrective actions; while minimizing product exposure and production down time
  • Accountable for the preparation and the execution of daily monitoring and verification tasks. Takes appropriate corrective action as a result of any findings generated
  • Lead various 3rd party audits (SQF Level II, Organic, Kosher, Gluten-Free, Customer, Regulatory, etc.)
  • Provide site leadership to meet and improve product quality, food safety and operational quality standards
  • Provide training and ensures employees constantly improve their product quality, food safety and operational quality practices. Uses continuous improvement tools to achieve results and improve the operation
  • Maintain customer quality satisfaction through the implementation and use of programs to control raw materials, in-process materials, production processes, environmental conditions and finished products
  • Provide technical support to the team regarding supplier approval related questions and requests
  • Manage self-Inspection, process validations, product validations, internal audits, management reviews, regulatory compliance activities and industry conformance activities

What you'll bring

  • 6+ years of experience managing Food Safety in a Manufacturing or food packaging environment
  • Experienced working with co-packers is highly desired
  • Bachelor’s Degree (quality management, food science, microbiology, chemistry) required
  • Master’s Degree preferred
  • Certified Safe Quality Food Practitioner (SQFP) and Preventative Control Qualified Individual (PCQI).
  • Subject matter expertise in federal, state, local and international regulations; SQF Level II, Organic, Kosher, Gluten-Free standards.
  • Strong strategic planning, leadership, communication, organization and project management skills
  • Strong working knowledge of regulatory labeling requirements for nutrition labeling.
  • Ability to handle a complex operation and the judgment to quickly problem solve and make judicious decisions.
  • Product recall experience is required.
  • Strong understanding of NSF Standards and sanitary design requirements for food equipment.
  • Experience as the primary point of contact for local, state and federal regulatory agencies.
