Job Summary and Mission

Starbucks is embarking on a new era in food high quality, creative, fresh lunch food assembled by Starbucks and delivered to retail stores daily. We are looking for a highly motivated leader to help us achieve our goal of opening the first ever Starbucks-owned food production kitchen.


This position contributes to Starbucks success by providing subject matter expertise and implementation support for food safety, facility cleanliness and conditions standards. Leads education and training programs to ensure highest level of food safety within operation. Models and acts in accordance with Starbucks guiding principles.


Summary of Key Responsibilities

Responsibilities and essential job functions include but are not limited to the following:

  • Evaluates and documents quality of finished goods and raw materials and reports quality conditions
  • Monitors food safety activities to ensure proper procedures are being met
  • Evaluates condition of the facility to ensure compliance to regulatory and HACCP requirements
  • Administers audit programs in support of quality objectives
  • Maintains product quality through adherence to Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and food safety guidelines, product specifications and quality procedures by monitoring and documenting compliance to quality parameters
  • Collaborates with kitchen leadership to identify opportunities and to drive improvement in execution of food safety and cleanliness standards
  • Provides guidance and direction to ensure kitchen team understanding and compliance with Starbucks standards and local health codes and communicates improvement strategies
  • Collaborates with Starbucks Quality Assurance team for program changes and quality updates
  • Interfaces with Local and State regulatory authorities to resolve issues and gain support for Starbucks program initiatives
  • Analyzes, summarizes and leverages audit data and pest control report information to identify risks and improvement opportunities
  • Maintains a safe, clean and organized work environment
  • Performs additional job-related duties as assigned by management

Basic Qualifications

  • Management of food establishment quality assurance programs in a similar foodservice, commissary, restaurant, kitchen or retail production environment 3-5 years
  • High school or GED required
  • Must have valid Food Handler Card or obtain card within first 30 days of hire
  • Ability to read, write and speak English fluently
  • Able to lift minimum of 30 lbs.
  • Available to work flexible hours that may include early mornings, and some evenings, weekends, nights and/or holidays


Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • College Degree in Food Science, Biology, Chemistry degree preferred or equivalent may substitute for a portion of the required experience
  • Registration Environmental Health Safety (REHS) certification in lieu of regulatory experience or Certified Food Safety Profession (CFSP)
  • Knowledge of food technology, food microbiology, safe food handling procedures and foodservice sanitation practices
  • Knowledge of Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and HACCP principles
  • Ability to conduct quality assurance system audits
  • Ability to organize collection of data, analyze information and capture conclusions
  • Ability to follow established operational and safety policies and procedures
