Position Summary: As a Senior Scientist for Product Development, you will provide expertise in the area of formulation development to successfully guide and implement product improvements and new product development.

Primary Job Responsibilities

  • Responsible for dry product development projects from formulation through new product start-ups
  • Responsible for company efforts on all testing protocols including digestibility, palatability and chemical testing
  • Establish routine stability studies
  • Develop ingredient and finished product specifications for all product forms
  • Coordinate ingredient testing to gather supporting data for formula optimization
  • Own test run process.
  • Manage formulation database
  • Manage document management system, including writing R&D Standard Operating Procedures
  • Partner with Procurement to search for alternate ingredients for formula cost optimization projects
  • Promote and sustain effective working relationships with outside key partners

Basic Qualifications:

  • BS degree in food science
  • 7+ years of relevant work experience in product development in the food industry; experience in pet food is desirable
  • Working knowledge of packaging functionality is a plus
  • Product formulation and formulation chemistry with food products, knowledge of functional ingredients desirable
  • Working knowledge of product development protocols, including formula development, testing, specifications setting
  • Basic knowledge of canine/feline nutrition is helpful
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook, Excel)
  • Basic knowledge of project management

Travel Requirements: Requires travel up to 35% of time
