The R&D Samples position encompasses a critical support role by managing and executing 1) the R&D samples preparation and shipment activities (including pulling current production items, out-of-stock production items, and experimental products), along with 2) maintaining the R&D labs raw material inventories and testing supplies. These two areas of responsibility are required to successfully produce R&D product samples for both internal and external customers in addition to maintaining an efficient/productive R&D lab facility. The R&D Samples activities are critical for the execution of R&D projects and providing product support to both Sales and Marketing.

Essential Job Functions – Duties and Responsibilities

 

  • Produce finished product samples, in varied amounts, as required to support various Litehouse business functions, i.e. Sales, Marketing, and Customer Service. Assemble food products in a laboratory setting utilizing strict scientific methodology and company development guidelines.
  • Manage the documentation process and resulting information flow generated by sample requests via written reports and updated R&D databases to create effective communication channels and historical records.
  • Execute protocols to replenish lab raw materials along with managing continuous replenishment schedules and organizational improvement to the raw material replenishment process.
  • Provide daily supervision, mentoring, and goal development for direct report employed in the R&D Samples Assistant position. The number and type of direct reports may increase as this business function evolves with this group.
  • Develop continued efforts to create a lab raw material replenishment methodology, which actively manages raw material inventory levels and provides timely replenishment of low stock levels.
  • Develop R&D samples process to reduce waste, create effective communications, and increase sample output.
  • Maintain a high level of competence and professionalism in a dynamic business environment (i.e., proficiency in driving team alignment on technical solutions and strategies).
  • Liaise, as directed by direct supervisor, with internal Litehouse departments such as Purchasing, Quality Assurance, Regulatory, and Marketing, to align and streamline execution of activities required to successful execute upon R&D projects.
  • Liaise with Human Resources to practice and enforce environmental, health, and safety standards.
  • Responsibility to adhere to Food Safety policies and report food safety and quality concerns to their supervisor.

Minimum Qualifications Required to Perform Work:

 

  • Education: Associate of Science (A.S.) or Associate of Applied Science (A.A.S) preferred, in general or applied sciences or High School Diploma/GED equivalent required.
  • Experience: 2-3 years related experience in Research and Development or related field.
  • Experience effectively using mechanical processes to generate stable emulsions and a working knowledge with food emulsion systems and their component attributes; including flavor, texture/rheology, and visual components – color and particulate with respect to the mechanisms of emulsification is required.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite with emphasis on advanced SharePoint, Excel and Word utilization.
  • Experience using ROSS computer systems or other mainframe-based computer systems preferred, but not required.
  • Ability to read and write correspondence and use basic technical/scientific terminology.
  • Must have strong verbal and written communications skills with ability to express ideas effectively and efficiently with the ability to present information in one-on-one and small group situations to other employees (both technical and non-technical) within the Litehouse organization.
  • Demonstrated understanding of basic mathematics and more advanced mathematical concepts, including computing rates, ratios and percentages, and constructing, analyzing and interpreting information graphically.
  • Must have excellent interpersonal and organizational skills.
  • Ability to establish & maintain effective working relationships with all contacts inside the company.
  • Ability to meet attendance requirements.
