Mars Wrigley Confectionary is looking for an Associate Scientist, Quality Management Processes in Gainesville, GA.

 

The Associate Scientist, Quality Management Processes (QMP) provides functional leadership to implement, maintain and improve Quality and Food Safety (Q&FS) Management program across the manufacturing site to ensure that finished products are safe for human consumption and meet customer, consumer and regulatory requirements to achieve business objectives.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage the implementation of Global Quality and Food Safety standards to ensure compliance with applicable statuary and regulatory food safety requirements
  • Manage internal audit program, CAPA, Quality and Food Safety change management process as it relates to new products, equipment or process
  • Manage third party Quality and Food Safety Management systems certification audits
  • Lead Q&FS continuous improvement projects within the site
  • Lead in combination with Quality and Food Safety Manager product related incident management process and provide recommendation on product disposition
  • Act as back up to the Quality and Food Safety Manager
  • Works on defined ingredient problems and provides technical solutions via designing pilot plant trials, conducting plant trials, documenting findings, analyzing results and outcomes utilizing foundational processes
  • Impacts quality of own work and the work of others both within the team and cross functionally
  • Builds knowledge of the company, processes and customers. 
  • Understands key business drivers and uses this understanding to accomplish own work.
  • Build network of cross functional partners to accomplish business objectives
  • Receives guidance and direction from others
  • Responsible for reviewing Global standards, leading gap assessment to the standards and regulatory requirements, including Food Defense Plans and continuous improvements of quality systems
  • Manages external audit programs and the internal quality audit function for the site through training associates, creating audit schedule and ensuring a robust and corrective and preventative action process
  • Collaborates with Q&FS Site team and supply partners to conduct the Q&FS management review at planned intervals to ensure suitability, adequacy and effectiveness of the Q&FS management programs
  • Partners with supply, R&D and other key stakeholders to implement changes, new process or new products in a safe manner and implement product quality conformance system
  • Lead continuous improvement of QFS system and product quality and conformance to specification through analysis of data and evaluation of trends through use of statistical analysis
  • Provides technical expertise and conducts incident investigation and risk analysis as well as provides recommendations for appropriate resolution
  • Lead segment ‘community of practice’ in an area of demonstrated expertise such as: auditing, food safety, hold management/systems, statistical process control, etc.

 

Minimum qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree Chemistry, Food Science, Food Safety, Engineering or a related scientific field and/or a combination of education and 7+ years demonstrated success in relevant manufacturing/quality role.
  • 1 year of food plant experience in a position related to quality & food safety
  • 1 year of food plant experience working with a quality & food safety management system.
  • Demonstrated success with Food safety risk, identification and management, HACCP and prerequisite controls
  • Proven application of quality tools, food science, and statistics
  • Application of GMP, GLP, food allergens, pest control, sanitation, and food safety regulations
  • Understanding of key scientific principles associated with food & ingredients.
  • Ability to work effectively in cross functional teams
  • Demonstrated capability to manage multiple priorities
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong presentation skills
  • Ability to travel 10% of the time
  • Successful Completion of a drug and background screen

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Advanced degree in Chemistry, Food Science, Food Safety, Engineering or related technical field
  • 2+ years of food plant experience in a position related to quality & food safety
  • 2+ years of food plant experience working with a quality & food safety management system.
  • Experienced auditor with an understanding of GFSI Quality Systems such as: SQF, BRC, FSSC22000 or ISO9000
