SUMMARY

Provide the technical skills to effectively create and manage new product development. Applies scientific principles in research, development, production, packaging and processing of nut designed foods. Conducts basic nutrition research for the development of programs to support product utilization.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Scientifically analyze ways to process nuts; determining the fat, vitamin and mineral content for product labeling; creating new processes; and developing the safest, most efficient ways to package, store and distribute.
  • Ensure products adhere to federal and food industry standards.
  • Test food products for proper taste, color and texture.
  • Have basic knowledge of FDA labeling regulations
  • Develop nutritional labels and ingredient decks for existing and in-development products
  • Developing and formulating ingredients for nut industry
  • Research and develop ingredients for various products
  • Working with company software to develop nutritional and dietary information & labels
  • Execute driven new product development through concept, recipe and trend research
  • Experience in product formulation and maintenance responsibility for new and current customers
  • Assist in initiating the final versions of formulations, taking them through the internal commercialization process (ie: from the bench top, through small scale pilot testing, to final formulations complete with manufacturing procedures)
  • Assist in finding ways to improve processes and functions
  • Review and enforce the Company’s food safety, quality and regulatory standards.
  • Other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor, Master, or Ph. D degree in Food Science, Food Technology or relevant field and/or equivalent experience.
  • Strong knowledge in ingredient technology and processing
  • Strong interest in nut science and its application in product development, product optimization, reformulation, shelf life, etc.
  • Ability to source, select and interact effectively with vendors, consultants, and various technical and/or non-technical disciplines internally and externally.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office and other computer software
  • Familiar with manufacturing process and equipment
  • Formulation development (natural and artificial ingredients) experience required
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • A solid understanding the use of all natural and organic ingredients, product formulations and procedures that fit core manufacturing capabilities
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently as well as function effectively and comfortably as a multi-disciplinary team member where team results are considered more important than individual contributions.
