Description

 Summary Description: This position is responsible for performing routine food safety audits in each Whataburger restaurant using their knowledge of food safety and sanitation in an effort to further develop and maintain a positive food safety culture in each restaurant and help ensure compliance with applicable food safety rules and regulations. This role will keep a continuous presence in our restaurants, maintain a positive education-focused working relationship with our Field Operations and Training teams, and be a subject matter expert in retail food safety practices. This position will work closely with our Home Office QA and Food Safety Team to foster continued protection of the brand.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Conducts routine food safety audits based on regulatory food safety guidelines and requirements and internal company standards
  • Analyses and evaluates food safety opportunities observed during audits and communicates findings with restaurant management and pertinent stakeholders and timely implements or makes recommendations regarding solutions and remedies for opportunities identified
  • Escalates and provides recommendations on any critical food safety opportunities to pertinent stakeholders for immediate resolution
  • Collaborates with Operations in development of Corrective Action Reports and Preventative Action Plans to ensure food safety standards in the restaurant are upheld
  • Serves as a subject matter expert in food safety and sanitation to Operations
  • Serves as a liaison between Whataburger’s Operations team and the pertinent regulatory authority, including advocating and negotiating on behalf of the Company with regulatory authority
  • Assumes a positive working relationship with Field Operations and Training on ensuring food safety standards are upheld while also allowing for feasible operating procedures
  • Fosters a food safety culture in the restaurant
  • Maintains a working retail food safety audit schedule and travel summary
  • Assumes additional responsibilities as assigned

 

Qualifications

 

EDUCATION:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in environmental health, food science, food technology, microbiology, or other related scientific area of study or equivalent work experience required



EXPERIENCE:

  • Experience in contributing to the management of projects is preferred
  • Experience in food safety auditing, whether manufacturing facility or retail concept.
  • 0+ months experience preferably in restaurant industry


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Proficiency in MS Office Word, Excel, Outlook, Power Point and Visio (as applicable)
  • Proficiency in JD Edwards (as applicable)
  • Ability to work in a team environment
  • Basic professional or theoretical knowledge and fundamental concepts, practices and procedures of a particular field of specialization in the execution of assigned duties and responsibilities
  • Basic understanding of budgetary concepts and procedures
  • Basic understanding of departmental structure and policies with a basic understanding of the cross- functional structure and policies of Whataburger Restaurants LLC
  • Basic ability to delegate tasks and get work done through others


PROFESSIONAL CERTIFICATION:

  • Must have at least one of the following certifications:
    • Professional Food Safety Auditor Training
    • Certified Professional of Food Safety in Training (CP-FS IT)
    • Certified Professional of Food Safety (CP-FS)
    • Certified in Comprehensive Food Safety (CC-FS)
    • Certified in Food Safety Supplier Audits Credential (CFSSA)
    • Registered Environmental Health Sanitarian/Registered Sanitarian (REHS/RS)
  • Note – If no professional certification is obtained upon employment, must be agreeable to successful completion of Professional Food Safety Auditor Training or CP-FS IT within 1 year of hire
