Job Summary

Department lead for new product development and commercialization team. Manages suppliers supporting new product development. Primary responsibilities include but not limited to strategically planning and directing new product recipes and ingredients commercialization activities internally, as well as, externally with suppliers for the company as a whole. Strategically designs and develops smallwares and operational procedures in support of new product development. Oversees all commercialization development strategies, plans, policies, systems and procedures; developing, training and directing the activities of commercialization team.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Strategic commercialization of new productsí recipes, ingredients, smallwares and procedures that capture consumer insights and food trends that drive sales and build the company brand.
  • Drives and manages commercialization strategies and process with suppliers from concept/ideation through consumer validation prototype products/recipes development.
  • Leads and manages commercialization documentation in SharePoint and new product development drives, such as: executing confidentiality agreements and company manufacturing agreements; evaluate and substantiate supplier capabilities; develop ingredient specifications; create and manage recipe food costs, nutrition panels, and ingredient statements; develop and manage test market and national launch timelines, forecast and communicate ingredient inventory and production run requirements to support new product in-market testing; coordinate quality assurance, purchasing, Blue Line supplier and ingredient set up, for purchase in the company system; and directs obsolete ingredient inventory usage/disposal.
  • Partners with new product development leadership team on the new product development process to build a library of products with completed business cases for potential national launch.
  • Leads commercialization excellence by being a champion for food quality and consistency in research and development, quality assurance, purchasing, training, and throughout the company and our supplier partners.
  • Provides leadership to the new product development and commercialization team, that includes selection, coaching, establishing goals and performance management. Mentor, guide, and inspire team to ensure growth and quality of work.
  • Manage commercialization in support of new products for Little Caesar Enterprises and non-traditional venues such as; Comerica Park, Little Caesarís Arena, Little Caesarís Express Unites, and the Flagship Little Caesarís store.
  • Oversee and manage commercialization teamís departmental budget.
  • Researches and maintains up to date ingredient and manufacturing awareness to support new product development and food trends; including supplier plant and innovation center visits and attendance and participation in trade shows and webinars. Educate and present findings by way of written reports and/or presentations to new product development, research and development, and senior leadership teams.
  • Oversee commercialization teamís efforts in supporting the new product development team with product presentations as needed; for the Presidentís council, bi-monthly new product development updates with leadership, and National Marketing Advisory Committee meetings.
  • Provides support as needed, to culinary team for all public relation events.
  • Manages food quality and serving for the new product development team at National Conference Supplier showcase.
  • Work in Little Caesars restaurants and non-traditional venues, to keep operations knowledge accurate and updated.

Qualifications and Skills

Minimum Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Bachelor degree in Food Science or related discipline.
  • Minimum of ten (10) yearsí experience in research and development, product development, and/or commercialization.
  • Extensive knowledge about food science, food manufacturing, ingredient specification development, food regulations, and development of food costs.
  • Proven experience in project management including: documentation, timeline development and execution, and effective and timely communication with cross-functional teams.
  • Proven demonstration of developing, valuing, and growing supplier partner relationships,
  • Experience in crisis management and providing leadership and direction to develop fast, effective techniques to mitigate
  • Experience providing counsel and advice to senior leaders.
  • Executive presence and comfort in all interactions with colleagues, senior-level management and critical external stakeholders.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge/experience of research and development and quality assurance/control, in the food industry.
  • Masters or PhD in Food Science
