JOB SUMMARY:

The Production Lead Supervisor provides leadership, guidance, and direction for shift supervisors/production employees to ensure consistency between shifts. He or she acts as a coach, mentor, and facilitator while developing and training the production supervisory staff. The Production Lead Supervisor has a great understanding of the entire production process and a sound grasp of the complex relationships that exists throughout the process flow and must be able to train production supervisory staff on managing the processes consistently as a team. They must possess the ability to trouble-shoot and pull together their team to resolve issues with the least amount of disruption possible. The Production Lead Supervisor is responsible for; system efficiencies, direction of supervisor/employee activities, and compliance to established product specifications, SOPís, and plant policies.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS, DUTIES AND PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

Quality

  • Ensures effective sanitation practices by monitoring end product quality results and key equipment performance indications as well as production tracking systems
  • Ensures compliance to in house and regulatory requirements
  • Uses statistical process control tools to monitor and communicate with supervisory team of necessary changes to processing parameters to correct items out of processing limits
  • Completes assigned Corrective Actions in timely and cost efficient manner

Cost

  • Tracks labor costs and manages production overtime to maximize efficiencies at the lowest possible labor cost.

Delivery

  • Provides leadership and direction to the production supervisory team
  • Makes approved corrections to System SOPís, SSOPís and Sanitation Program

Safety

  • Monitors and enforces safety SOPís
  • Enforces OSHA and Safety Regulations

Morale

  • Ensures effective employee relations by providing coaching and development of supervisors/employees
  • Oversees the development of a team oriented environment and efficient staff
  • Creates an environment that encourages employee involvement and fosters innovative ideas on process improvement
  • Utilizes shift pass-down meetings and plant meetings when needed to communicate progress against measures, share objectives, and solicit ideas and suggestions from employees
  • Provides adequate time, training materials, and other resources that assist employees in learning their roles and responsibilities
  • Leads and supervises a crew of 5-8

Equipment Operated:

  • Separators, UF, RO, MF, NF Membranes systems, HTST, Evaporators, Dryers, Bagging and Bulk bagging equipment, Palletizer, Scales, CIP Systems, Miscellaneous Manufacturing Equipment, Personal Computer, Copy Machine,  Calculator, Analytical Equipment, Phone, Fork lift, and hand tools.

Working Conditions:

  • The worker is subject to both environmental conditions: Activities occur inside and outside.
  • There is sufficient noise to cause the worker to shout in order to be heard above the ambient noise level.

JOB SPECIFICATIONS/QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:

  • Four year degree preferred in related field, preferably in Dairy science or in a related field
  • Required: High School Diploma or Equivalent

Experience:

  • Required: Minimum of 6 years experience in the dairy food industry of which at least 4 years in production supervision roles
  • Required: Minimum of 4 years supervising personnel in highly diverse and complex work environments.

Physical Requirements:

  • Occasional ascending and/or descending of ladders and stairs using feet and legs and/or hands and arms on a regular basis. Body agility is emphasized
  • Walking: Moving about on foot to accomplish tasks, particularly for long distances on a regular basis
  • Repetitive motions: Substantial movements (motions) of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers
  • Standing: Particularly for sustained periods of time on concrete
  • Stooping: Bending body downward and forward by bending spine at the waist on a regular basis
  • Reaching: Extending hands and arms in any direction
  • Pushing: Using upper extremities to press against something with steady force in order to thrust forward, downward or outward.
  • Pulling: Using upper extremities to exert force in order to draw, drag, haul or tug objects in a sustained motion.
  • Kneeling: Bending legs at knee to come to a rest on knee or knees occasionally
  • Crouching: Bending the body downward and forward by bending leg and spine
  • Lifting: Able to lift up to 50lbs on a rare basis.   
  • Talking: Expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word.  Includes activities in which they must convey detailed or important spoken instructions to other workers accurately, loudly, or quickly.

  • Proficiency in or knowledge of using a variety of computer software applications, especially Excel, Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint software
