Senior Food & Safety Quality Manager – Pelion, SC

WP Rawl: A Grower, Shipper, Processor of Leafy Greens and Vegetables is seeking a Senior Food & Safety Quality Manager for its growing and processing operations in Pelion, South Carolina. The perfect candidate will have the ability to build on our current programs, while leading through a “Hands On” team oriented approach. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities 

  • Manage the day to day of the Quality Assurance and Sanitation Departments 
  • Ensure proper labor levels for entire QA/Sanitation Teams to include hiring, career training and accountability of duties. Currently direct reports of a QA Supervisor w/12 Associates, Sanitation Supervisor w/15 Associates as well the Vendor Approval/Consumer Affairs Coordinator
  • Maintain and continuously strive for improvements for all Food Safety, Sanitation, and Quality Assurance Programs.
  • Ensure and Maintain Quality Assurance and Sanitation Budgetary Compliance
  • Ensure successful completions of all 2nd and 3rd party audits accordingly i.e. SQF2, Organic Processing, U.S. Military and Major Retailers. 
  • Ensure an effective and efficient NPD New Product Development Process 
  • Manage effective in-house microbiological testing procedures and protocols 
  • Maintain up to date vendor approval and consumer feedback database
  • Periodically compile and submit quality assurance reports to upper management 
  • Technical support of Agriculture Department as it relates to regulatory and customer compliance 
  • Participate and attend industry food safety regulatory meetings and conferences 
  • Have FSMA competency,GFSI scheme background
  • Be familiar with all aspects of Pathogen testing and prevention. 


EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree in microbiology, chemistry, food science, or closely related discipline; Advanced degree preferred
  • 4+ years’ experience in food manufacturing quality systems management, with demonstrated success at the manager level 
  • Strong quantitative and critical thinking skills 
  • Self-directed with the ability to work independently as well as in groups 
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to effectively develop and implement strategic objectives and plans 
  • HACCP Certificate Required 
  • SQF Level 2 Practitioner Certificate Required 
  • SQF 3 program development a plus 
  • Proficient in Basic Microbiology Analyses
  • Bi-Lingual English/Spanish a plus 10%
