The Risk Management department has an opening for a Director of Corporate Safety. This position may be located in Boise, Phoenix, Dallas, Denver, or Chicago.

 

POSITION PURPOSE:

 

The purpose of the Director, Corporate Safety is to assist the Sr. Director of Corporate Safety in managing and streamlining all retail safety accident prevention and regulatory compliance practices into a cohesive and purpose-directed risk management program.

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

Accident Prevention- 70% time

 

Identify and analyze factors that are creating workplace injuries and implement effective control measures.

Strategize and streamline core safety programs throughout organization.

Responsible for analyzing, formulating and deploying new safety programs throughout retail divisions.

Proven understanding of safety programs and compliance with the ability to speak to operational impact.

Ability to develop strong partnerships with division leadership teams, division safety personnel and corporate cross-functional departments to accomplish safety objectives.

Promotes involvement, awareness and endorsement of accident prevention programs.

Provide support and guidance for retail safety personnel located within retail divisions.

Support division safety personnel and leadership in the development of accident reduction goals

Accept responsibility for assigned projects and bring them to effective and successful completion.

Promotes effective return to work practices to lower claim expense.

Ability to understand profit and loss statements as well as property and insurance programs.

Measurement and sustainment of goals

 

Support the development of control processes to monitor and measure effectiveness of programs.

Manage the long-term sustainability of core safety, accident prevention, risk control and environmental programs for all retail divisions.

Develops and or requests statistical reports to focus efforts on injury trends, risk control, compliance and corrective actions.

Create strategies for continuous learning and program improvements to impact accident prevention to reduce claim expense.

Regulatory Compliance - 30% time

 

Ability to interpret federal and state Occupational Safety and Health regulations and apply them appropriately.

Coach and guide division safety personnel during interactions with OSHA and provide guidance in developing written correspondence.

Attend informal conferences with OSHA to support division safety personnel when warranted.

Partner with and involve legal department on regulatory matters.

Monitor compliance to company safety policies to reduce exposure to regulatory enforcement.

Communicate compliance performance to division leadership to positively impact change.

Provide guidance to division safety personnel in planning long or short-term objectives.

KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE:

 

Four-year degree or equivalent experience.

Professional certification such as CSP, ASP and or ARM preferred.

7+ years of retail operational experience preferred.

Excellent communication and organizational skills.

Polished public speaker.

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

 

Proven ability to formulate and execute large scale company-wide policies and processes.

Strong influencing and leadership skills designed to resolve complex company issues and affect behavioral change.

Excellent collaboration skills in working with subject matter experts to develop and implement safety policies and procedures throughout the organization.

Knowledgeable of learning and development practices, with the ability to execute large scale training programs.

Strong analytical, planning and organizational skills to manage and execute large scale safety projects with high financial impact to the company.

Strong ability to communicate programs effectively within all levels of management and throughout the organization.

TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS: 30%

 

Periodic, multi-state travel required.

Travel may include transport by airplane, rail and or personal motor vehicle.

PHYSICAL ENVIRONMENT:

 

Work is performed in a temperature-controlled environment but occasionally in refrigerated or freezing conditions.

Must sit, stand or walk for extended periods of time.

May spend long periods of time at desk or computer terminal.

May use calculators, keyboards, telephone, and other office equipment during normal workday.

Stooping, bending, twisting, and reaching may be required in completion of job duties.

Workday is fast-pace; occasional evening and weekend work may be required.
