Job Description – QA Officer (Food Safety)

DeWeerdt Poultry Farm

Overall Summary: This full-time position involves designing and implementing systems that include site-specific safety protocols, quality procedures, and adequate training of personnel. Position will also involve overall administrative oversight and adaptation of plans/procedures to ensure farm is compliant with recommended guidelines of operation and addressing changing risks.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Manage the SQF System and perform an audit of the SQF System in its entirety
  • Ensure food safety of all products by strict adherence to company’s Food Safety and Food Defense System
  • Coordinate with QA Technicians that all quality procedures are being followed and recorded
  • Support daily inventory of raw materials and finished goods
  • Educate employees and key personnel in all policies and procedures as they relate to the SE Prevention Plan, Biosecurity Program guidelines, and SQF System. Training will be completed for new employees and annually for all employees
  • Ensure smooth crossover of procedures/policies, personnel training, and documentation between caged layers facility and egg processing plant facility
  • Take corrective action when necessary in consultation with farm and plant managers
  • Provide administrative assistance for egg processing plant operations as needed

Qualifications:

  • A team player with a desire to build, motivate, and manage effective teams
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills
  • Exceptional organization and prioritization skills
  • Proficient computer skills, specifically with E-mail and Microsoft Office software
  • Self-driven with excellent time management skills
  • Hands-on work ethic that desires to learn and assist with various roles for which he/she will be providing education and assessing processes
  • Strong customer service aptitude with creative problem solving abilities
  • Exhibits personal integrity

Education/Training:

  • Minimum of high school diploma; college degree preferred
  • Must have or be able to complete appropriate food safety program certifications (HACCP and SQF) within specified timeframe
  • Background in agriculture or food industry preferred
  • Experience in office administration/assistance preferred

Reports to: Farm Owner/Plant Managers
