R&D Product Developer - Middle River, MD 21220

A growing Consumer Products Company is looking to expand its current product offerings and launch new innovations and product lines. We are looking for an R&D Product Developer with experience and interest in new developing new products and overseeing product launches.

In order to be considered for this position, you must be a natural problem solver and have experience in managing multi-faceted projects pertaining to product development, manufacturing, ingredient procurement and formulations, particularly with dry powders, spices, etc. You should have 2+ years experience in product development, daily execution of R&D related lab activities and bench to production scale-up.

  • Support the VP of R&D in all aspects of product development and manufacturing support
  • Assist in product development and production scale up along with daily execution of R&D related lab activities.
  • Evaluate current and alternate food ingredients, create product formulations and conduct sensory evaluations of new food products for Retail, Foodservice and Ingredient customers.
  • Participate in cross functional training to ensure effective resolution of technical issues and support product innovation.
  • Provide assistance to QA department.
  • Work closely with raw materials vendors, pricing departments, regulatory departments as well as operations and logistics between various co-manufacturing facilities.


  • Four year degree in Chemistry, Biology, Food Science, or applied science OR an AS degree and 2+ years of quality, R&D or manufacturing experience. Food and Beverage or culinary food application experience is a plus.
  • Demonstrated Product Development Knowledge (2+ years of production or R&D laboratory experience); specifically with flavors, powders, spices and other dry ingredients.
  • Moderate to advance scientific and food technology knowledge.
  • Strong mathematical skills
  • Strong sensory skills
  • Industrial blending equipment experience preferred (e.g. conical blender, V-blender, ribbon blender)
  • Moderate to advanced computer skills (word processing, spreadsheets, and database navigation)
  • Basic to moderate knowledge of food regulations with specific emphasis on nutritional labeling, natural food ingredients, Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point (HACCP) and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs).
  • Familiarity with laboratory procedures & equipment: pH-meters, refractive index, brix, and sensory testing.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Must be willing to travel when required for projects
  • Must be able to lift 10 pounds on a regular basis and occasionally lift 50 pounds
  • Must be able to walk, sit, or stand for extended periods and navigate safely in an industrial environment (e.g., ladders, stairs, stationary and moving industrial equipment).
  • Must be able to work independently with minimal supervision.
