JOB SUMMARY:

 As a Michael Foods, Inc. Food Safety/Quality Intern you will have your own project, present your results to business leaders, have the opportunity to make a real impact on our business and start building your career! As part of the plant or corporate quality team, you will be involved in the execution of food safety and quality processes involved in food manufacturing by partnering with the quality supervisory team and also work with Operations, Continuous Improvement, and Maintenance teams on process improvements activities and productivity goals for the Plant.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assist in drafting, revision, and plant standard operating procedures.
  • Act as a liaison between Production, Distribution, Sanitation, Maintenance, and the Quality Department.
  • Participate in plant food safety/quality inspections, in-process inspections.
  • Verify sanitary condition of production lines prior to start-up and after downtime requiring maintenance activity.
  • Perform investigative environmental swabbing of critical production equipment/areas as a troubleshooting guide.
  • Adherence to safe work practices, GMP and HACCP guidelines, maintain sanitary conditions and ensure that product quality is maintained. Report to management any conditions or practices that may adversely affect food safety, food quality or personnel safety.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

  • Current enrollment in a Bachelorís or Masterís Degree program related to Food Science, Microbiology, or related food science field.
  • Basic understanding on root cause analysis, process continuous improvement and Six Sigma tools/improvement cycle
  • Excellent verbal and oral communication skills and be able to influence others.
  • Eager to learn and challenge yourself; self-directed, detail oriented, reliable and strong initiative
  • Microsoft Office user capabilities and any CMMS experience is a plus
  • Be able to work 10 consecutive weeks during the months of May through August.
