Job Title: Senior Specialist – Health and Safety (Food Safety)

Job Summary

The Senior Food Safety Specialist will help support and manage standards across  locations, serving as the subject matter expert on food safety regulatory requirements at the federal, state, and local levels.  This position reports to the Manager of Health and Safety.

Essential Functions

  • Apply principles and techniques of occupational health and safety and accident prevention
  • Manage food safety training requirements at retail stores and regional distribution centers
  • Perform food safety audits, inspections, and evaluations of retail stores and regional distribution centers to identify potential hazards
  • Implement corrective actions in accordance with regulatory requirements as necessary
  • Ensure food safety compliance by maintaining partnerships with departments including Sales Operations, Supply Chain, Quality Assurance, Purchasing, Procurement, and Real Estate
  • Establish relationships with federal, state, and local regulators to demonstrate Lidl's commitment to a best-in-class food safety program
  • Manage long-term projects aimed at continuous improvement in reduction of food safety risk
  • Manage data entry efforts and programs, database maintenance, and research tasked by other team members
  • Order suspension of activities that pose threats to workers’ or customers’ health and/or safety
  • Recommend measures to help protect workers from potentially hazardous work methods, processes, or materials
  • Provide safety and health assistance to management, supervisors, employees, and collateral duty safety representatives
  • Provide outreach to employees to promote safety awareness and a positive attitude towards a safety culture throughout the organization

Required

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Project, Visio, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • PowerPoint presentation skills
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Working understanding of safety regulations

 

Required Education, Certifications/ Licenses, Related Experience

  • Bachelor's Degree in Food Science, Public Health, Biology, Environmental Science, or similar discipline
  • 1 – 3 years of experience in similar role
  • In lieu of degree, a total number of three years’ experience in related field will meet the education and related experience requirements listed above

 

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, Abilities or Certifications

  • ServeSafe Certification
  • Food Protection Manager Training Instructor/Proctor

 

Physical Job Requirements

  • This position requires the ability to remain in a stationary position (standing and/or seated) more than half the time
  • The person in this position may need to move about the corporate office(s) less than half the time
  • The person in this role must be able to position him/herself (ex: kneel, crawl, crouch down) to fulfill the essential functions of the role less than half the time
  • The person in this position must be able to maneuver (lift, move, carry, slide, etc.) 15 – 40 lbs.
  • This position requires the ability to spend more than half the time viewing computer monitors
  • This position is exposed to hazard/chemical materials, outdoor weather conditions, or non-climate controlled workspace(s) less than half the time
  • The person in this position must be able to identify and distinguish between colors all of the time

 

Travel Requirements

  • This position commutes between regional offices/distribution centers 25% of the time
  • This position requires overnight domestic travel less than 25% of the time
  • This position requires over
  • Anticipated travel will be by car, air, and/or train
