We are in search of a stellar candidate who can supervise activities related to quality assurance in the BrewDog Brewery. This includes staffing, scheduling, coordinating, planning and administering the breweries quality management program. This is a diverse role and will encompass laboratory, packaging quality, sensory, production compliance and health and safety, managed under the global BrewDog standard.

Our ideal candidate drives excellence in service delivery and instills high ethical standards within the all operational teams. You are a recognized technical expert and apply continuous improvement strategies. Reporting to the Global Head of Quality, you will maintain an excellent working relationship with the Ellon brewery through regular virtual meetings and promote and continually improve the Global Quality Programme.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Setting up and overseeing all aspects of quality assurance and quality control.
  • Determining, negotiating and agreeing in-house quality procedures, standards and/or specifications.
  • Writing and maintaining oversight and controls of all lab SOP's.
  • Recommending new policies or procedures as necessary to assure high quality of product or service and communicating these quality programs to employees and coordinates training of employees as needed.
  • Liaison with all brewery departments, particularly Production; effectively communicating deviations from the specification, troubleshooting process issues and contributing to root cause analyses.
  • Supervising all Quality personnel and conducting reviews, performance plans and disciplinary actions.
  • Managing the budget – setting up a supply chain system for Quality Department.
  • Overseeing installation of new equipment and facilities.
  • Maintenance of laboratory equipment and managing lab and brewing quality data.
  • Produces KPI’s & drives continual improvement.
  • Develop Laboratory Information Management System.
  • Develop effective ways of working to ensure maximum buy-in and trust from other stakeholder departments.
  • Lead Beer Sensory Evaluation program.
  • Develop brewery quality compliance programme, including HACCP plans and internal audit programme.
  • Manage external audits and non-compliance management.
  • Liaison with other BrewDog brewery Quality departments globally, reviewing results, standards and continually. improving service delivery and innovation. Endorsement and delivery of the global quality programme
  • Ensuring team is flawlessly executing the minimum sampling plans.
  • Effectively prioritize & manage ad hoc sampling.
  • Certify training for staff members & regularly verify competency in Quality topics.
  • Ensuring the implementation of new practices & policies with the team.
  • Build success of team though successions planning & project support and leads transformation and manages change within the team.
  • Liaison and relationship building with customers and commercial stakeholders. Make them love Quality and spread the word.

Experience and Key Competencies:

  • Minimum Bachelor’s degree in a science field such as Chemistry, Bio-Chemistry, Microbiology or related field and at least 5 years of related experience and/or training.
  • Knowledge of brewing process from a QA standpoint.
  • Operational understanding and of microbiological and analytical aspects of beer quality management.
  • Knowledge of Beer Sensory Evaluation – ideally certified cicerone and/or qualifications through IBD or equivalent.
  • Experienced in GMP/GLP, HACCP (Food Safety Management Systems) and LEAN methodologies.
  • Experienced in compliance and health and safety-related areas.
  • Must be an incredible communicator a team player – You are the face of BrewDog Quality!!
  • Operates with integrity and troubleshoots with diligence and efficiency – ‘Can if vs can’t because!’.
  • An advocate for knowledge transfer – teach others and continually learn.
  • An advocate for cross-functionality - gets involved in all areas and proactively seeks to help and improve.
  • Creates a performance-driven culture and focuses on maximising resource efficiency.
