SUMMARY OF POSITION
The Food Technologist is responsible for new product development and
providing technical service using both a scientific and culinary approach.
- Develop new products and
processes in response to R&D, Sales and/or customer requests.
- Produce bench top and pilot plant
samples and scale up formulation and processes in production.
- Commission the commercialization
of the products and assist QA in writing up the specifications and
- Maintain concise documentation of
tests carried out in the kitchen and record results of the tests.
- Design sensory evaluation
protocol, schedule and coordinate sensory evaluation of new products and
- Cost out new products and carry
out cost reduction projects or improve product quality without
- Conduct ingredient research,
contact suppliers and consult with their technical team for assistance
in the use of new
- Carry out shelf life evaluations
of new products and potential shelf life extension of existing products.
- Confer with vendors, packaging
and marketing specialists to understand available technology and provide
ideas, solutions, and
to meet food safety, quality, costs, and customer requirements.
- Identify, evaluate and inspect
products from co-packers and from competitors.
- Maintain databases of ingredient
and formula changes.
- Responsible for nutritional
analysis and labeling of products.
- Carry out the routine quality
evaluations of products from production to make sure that our product
quality is consistent.
- Assist the VP of Culinary and
Innovation with various projects.
- Adheres to all Food
- Communicates any known or
suspected Food Safety/ Quality issues to the Production Manager or
Supervisor, Q.A. Department
- Attends Food Safety/Quality
BS in Food Science or relevant area.
Minimum 3 years experience in R&D role within
the food manufacturing industry.
Ability to work accurately, quickly and with good laboratory practices across
multiple projects within the day/week.
Candidate must possess good documentation skills and be adept at working
within programs such as Excel, Word & assorted databases such as Genesis.
Knowledge of recipes, basic mixing and blending skills and the ability to
follow formulations precisely is required.
Soft skills: we are looking for someone with a positive attitude, a
team player, engaging and able to communicate thoughts and ideas effectively.
Must be able to work in three different climate controlled
areas. Kitchens, cooler and freezer. Must be able to lift occasionally up to
35lbs while bending and turning.
