Food Scientist

Thermo Pac, LLC, a Stone Mountain, GA based food manufacturing facility is seeking a Food Scientist.This position is responsible for performing various tasks related to product development of new items, renovation of existing items, and production support to ensure quality product is produced and maintained.

Duties and responsibilities

  • Commercial Product Development - lab development, pilot plant work, production trials, and supporting initial production start-up.
  • Responsible for idealization, conceptualization, and prototype development for innovation projects, staying current on new food flavor trends and assist in effectively communicating them to the organization.
  • Assist in redesign and renovation of existing products to increase quality, reduce costs and/or increase production efficiencies based on customer requests
  • Interact with other team members and customers in a professional manner
  • Measure materials for lab and pilot formulation according to proper material handling procedures and prepare lab batches according to instructions provided by customers
  • Work with and support other departments, including Operations, Process Improvement, Procurement, and Quality Assurance
  • Work with the SPC program manager and Quality Systems to create new process control requirements for trials and start-up products and provide data or data analysis upon internal and customer request
  • Adhere to all Food Safety regulations, Quality, R&D Procedures, GMP, and Safety Standards
  • Complete other required tasks as necessary


  • Bachelorís degree in Food Science, Biology, Chemistry or other related field required. Associateís degree in culinary arts strongly preferred.
  • Preferred Minimum 3+ years of experience in food product development & previous experience in food manufacturing. Culinary industry experience is preferred.
  • Must be willing to taste food products, including animal products. Excellent communication and problem solving skills
  • Strong computer skills
  • Ability to work independently while maintaining close communication and collaborative work relationships with all levels of the organization and with external customers.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills with ability to prioritize and anticipate changing project needs.
  • Mainly first shift hours, but must maintain a flexible schedule to accommodate start production and/or adjustments required on second shift. Limited weekend work may also required.
  • Must be available while not at the facility to answer calls or emails regarding production issues
  • Must interact with customers and plant personnel in a professional and friendly manner
