Mars Wrigley Confectionary is looking for a Sr. Quality & Food Safety Specialist of New Product Innovation in Chicago, IL.

 

The Sr. Quality & Food Safety Specialist of New Product Innovation supports the development of a robust pipeline of new product and process development by conducting food safety and quality risk assessments and mitigation strategy development for new products and processes.  They will support the science and technology platforms, as well as the development teams in conducting risk-assessments, training, validation and auditing. They will work in concert with our science and technology team, as well as our development and pilot plant associates to assure the quality and safety of our products.

 

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead the review of material, process and finished goods food safety and quality risk assessments

• Research and develop controls systems to support quality and food safety risk mitigation in new or novel products and processes

• Support food safety activities associated with our global pilot facilities in the establishment of food safety related programs and processes.

• Perform training on food safety related topics

• Support the development of compliance (QMP, FSSC-22k) quality and food safety systems within our global pilot plant community

 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree required in Microbiology, Food Science or related field, etc.
  • 5 years professional experience in a quality and food safety role
  • 3 years professional experience working in quality and food safety in a manufacturing setting
  • 3 years minimum experience with and knowledge of accredited quality and food safety standards and auditing, e.g. GFSI, Dutch HACCP, FSSC 22,000 or Codex Alimentarius, etc.
  • Experience designing and implementing HACCP / Preventative Controls plans in food manufacturing facilities
  • Experience doing HACCP risk assessments
  • Ability to research, read and extract relevant information from technical publications
  • HACCP certification by an accredited body
  • Strong project and organizational management
  • Good command of written and spoken English
  • Strong PC skills including Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Ability to travel to up to 20% to domestic and/or international locations
  • Successful Completion of a drug and background screen

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Advanced Degree
  • 6+ years professional experience in a quality and food safety role
  • 4+ years professional experience working in quality and food safety in a manufacturing setting
  • 4+ years minimum experience with and knowledge of accredited quality and food safety standards and auditing, e.g. GFSI, Dutch HACCP, FSSC 22,000 or Codex Alimentarius, etc.
  • Experience working with sensitive food products – Dairy, Low-Acid Foods, Aseptic Manufacturing
