Position Overview

Initiate and manage the development and maintenance of in-store focused food safety programs and systems for MOD Pizza.  Collaborate with various Operations, Culinary, Training, and other teams to establish food safety standards that are executable within the MOD Pizza culture while maintaining focus in achieving top tier food safety performance.  Create sustainable methods for ensuring compliance to in-store food safety standards, adherence to local and state health department requirements, federal regulatory, and other applicable food safety guidelines.  Regularly interface with health departments in any crisis events and during new store opening processes, as applicable.  Manage vendor relationships relating to food safety (sanitation programs, independent auditing, pest management, etc)

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage MOD Pizza food safety systems, focusing on in-store practices & continuous improvement.
  • Manage the creation of in-store food safety practices & partner with cross-functional teams to achieve top tier food safety and proactively eliminate/minimize potential food safety risks.
  • Assist cross-functional teams during product recalls.
  • Provide expert food safety support to team during crisis management situations.
  • Monitor for industry food safety threats and regulatory activities that may impact MOD Pizza or itís partners.  Escalate and communicate threats and provide assistance to the impacted teams.
  • Establish and manage relationships with independent audit organizations for current and future partnerships
  • Understand Food Codes throughout the US and provide guidance to Culinary & Operations for compliance and best in class food safety practices
  • Creation of restaurant HACCP Plans, when applicable
  • Manage Health Department inspection program across company stores
  • Provide food safety support visits to stores, as needed
  • Manage in-store pest control program and advise on any improvements needed
  • Manage in-store chemical and cleaning program and advise on any improvements needed to drive food safety
  • Assist during restaurant closures and outages by providing guidance in food safety, handling, and regulatory interaction, as needed
  • Collaborate with Culinary and Operations to establish a robust shelf life program and provide on-going assessments of menu items

 

Basic Qualifications:

  • 3 + years experience working as a food safety specialist or manager in foodservice/restaurant
  • Demonstrated knowledge of HACCP, GMPs, FDA and all other applicable State and Local health and food safety codes
  • Ability to investigate product and food safety complaints, outbreaks and interface with regulatory authorities (health departments, FDA)
  • Experience with food safety program implementation
  • Comfortable with and ability to use industry resources to seek knowledge and solve problems
  • Effective communication with and develop working relationships with suppliers, stores, and other teams
  • Troubleshoot food safety concerns
  • BS degree with technical background in Biology, Environmental Health, Public Health or similar.
  • HACCP certification

 

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • 5 + years preferred. 
  • 2+ years experience working with public health officials is preferred.
  • ServSafe certification; instructor/proctor experience is a plus
  • Standardized Allergen Training/Ceritification from a recognized party (NRA, AllerTrain, ServSafe) preferred

 

 

Physical Requirements

Office work involves remaining in a stationary position most of the time in front of a computer, using a keyboard, mouse and telephone. Regularly operate a computer and other office equipment. Occasionally move about the work site to access file cabinets, office equipment, etc. Exert up to 10 lbs. of force occasionally, and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or regularly move objects. Communicate and exchange information with co-workers and other individuals in person and electronically.
