Job Summary


The Food Safety Specialist acts as a liaison between enforcing and regulatory agencies, and federal, state and municipal government. They will handle all matters relating to public health protection and sanitation practices in the stores.


  • Act as a primary resource for associates to address questions or concerns about regulatory inspections. This may include acting as intermediary between the company and regulator to facilitate resolution of disputes.
  • Conduct periodic daily inspections throughout company to ensure compliance with proper sanitation practices.
  • Stay abreast of new ordinances and changes and inform management of current developments.
  • Coordinate final inspection with regulatory health agencies for approval of occupancy permit and a food dealer permit.
  • Coordinate with municipal agencies to conduct mandatory food manager certification classes.
  • Assist Claims Department with food borne illness claims; pick up food product suspected of causing illness and deliver it to an independent laboratory for analysis.
  • Provide periodic reporting of key food safety and sanitation indicators including pest management. Coordinate with pest control companies for pest control service and insure proper state approved pesticides are used.
  • Coordinate with grease trap cleaning company for proper cleaning of grease traps and that required manifests are sent to City of Houston Health Department.
  • Periodically analyze family size packages of hamburger meat to ensure compliance with state requirement.
  • Comply with all local, state and federal laws.
  • Ensure all products sold for consumption are safe.
  • Must be knowledgeable of federal, state and municipal laws regarding food protection and rules on retail food store sanitation. Must be knowledgeable of organisms and bacteria that cause food borne illness also basic symptoms of related illness.
  • Track trends in food safety regulatory data and report regularly to company management along with suggested action plans.
  • Support food safety in the store; set and communicate expectations with regard to food safety; continuously observe employee and management practices to ensure food safety is an important part of every employee’s work.
