Caldwell boasts great community events, many outdoor recreational activities, and several wineries.



The Research Technician 2 reports to Microbiology Manager and supports NAFG Microbiology Laboratory. Research Technician 2 will conduct routine microbiological analysis, media preparation, sampling, and cleaning activities. Assists microbiologists with product analysis, research projects and quality control activities. The individual must be self-motivated. Overtime in this position may be required.



  • Adhere to strict Bio safety procedures while following good manufacturing and laboratory practices in the analysis of all samples. Analyzes the microbiological quality of food products and environmental samples. Has knowledge of internal customers' microbiological specifications.
  • Follows all required EHS&S policies, procedures and practices.
  • Prepare media necessary to perform analysis and complete quality control checks prior to use.
  • Coordinate inventory supply of consumables and test kits required for analysis. Enter supplies’ information in the laboratory management system.
  • Perform assigned cleaning duties around lab environment and equipment. Handle biohazard waste in a safe manner and sterilize utensils for sampling.
  • Coordinate retention samples and keep the lab environment in a clean/organized status at all times.
  • Receive samples and log condition upon arrival in the laboratory management system database or applicable forms.
  • Assist microbiologists in research projects, which contributes to new product introductions and process improvement by accurately executing orders, routine analyses and providing valuable insights and input.
  • Takes process/water/product/swab samples from various plant production areas, complies with plant safety requirements and participates in plant safety training.
  • Completes data entry into the laboratory management systems (MLA and MMS) accurately and implements Good Laboratory Practices (GLP).


  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
  • Two years related experience and/or training.
  • Strong background in food processing methods and analytical testing within production facilities preferred.
  • Computer skills required.
  • Works independently but with some supervision and direction.
  • Good math, writing and communications background.
  • Must be trained in Good Manufacturing Practices and Good Laboratory Practices including Bio Safety training.
  • Must be able to safely lift 30lbs when performing supply inventory.
  • Research Technicians will work within laboratories, pilot plant, and production facilities.
  • Prefer having completed classes in: Food Science & Microbiology, Sanitation, and hygiene, HACCP, Laboratory Science.
  • Combination of education, training and/or experience will be considered for this position.

Hourly Pay:  DOE
