R&D Lab Technician

Department: Solutions

Location: Carol Stream, IL

Type: Full Time

 

Summary

The R&D Lab Technician creates premix samples for customer evaluation. In addition, the R&D Lab Technician will evaluate raw materials and perform specification testing when applicable.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Creates sample premix blends based upon work orders and instructions and direction provided by R&D; catalogs retained samples
  • Perform certain testing on premix sample and record results in the systems.
  • Support the approval process and required testing on incoming lots of raw materials.
  • Obtain R&D approvals for created samples when necessary
  • Prepare paperwork and packaging for shipping samples
  • Maintain sample warehouse inventory including receipts and transfers
  • Generate technical documents for premix samples and raw materials, and store them in the system.
  • Manage sample work orders (launch, execute, close)

Qualifications

Education and/or Experience

Bachelorís degree in Food Science, Nutrition or Pharmacy preferred or one to three years related experience and/or training. Previous lab experience and knowledge of metric system required.

 

Language Skills

Ability to read, understand and interpret regulatory information, industry standards, and International and Federal Food Regulations. The ability to format and create R&D/quality documents where necessary.

 

Mathematical Skills

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent. Thorough understanding of unit conversions, nutritional analysis calculations.

 

Reasoning Ability

Ability to make educated judgments on correctness, accuracy, and appropriateness of information. Must be able to organize, and prioritize and make decisions.

 

Attention to Detail

Must continually demonstrate a strong attention to detail and careful execution of tasks.

 

Computer Skills

To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Contact Management systems; Database software; Inventory software; Spreadsheet software and Word Processing software. Must be comfortable collecting and interpreting data.
