The Sanitation Supervisor provides leadership to the Sanitation Team to ensure suitable conditions for the manufacture of food products. He/She ensures best practices are followed and workplace safety is maintained while utilizing chemicals and equipment.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Assigns cleaning tasks and oversees disassembly, cleaning, and sanitation of food production equipment and the environment in food processing areas.

Performs post-cleaning inspections and directs corrective action as needed.

Assigns cleaning tasks and oversees cleaning and sanitation of equipment and the environment as assigned in various areas of the facility including coolers, freezers, warehouses, and docks.

Performs cleaning and sanitation activities as a working member of the Sanitation Team.

Ensures equipment, parts, and utensils are stored and organized properly in designated areas.

Follows color coding guidelines for use and storage of equipment and utensils.

Cleans and maintains equipment used for cleaning and sanitation activities (buckets, brooms, squeegees, foamers, sprayers, scrub brushes, etc.) to prevent cross contamination.

Accurately documents cleaning and sanitation activities and inspections performed.

Participates in pre-operational inspection of the production rooms and equipment with a Quality Technician to ensure proper sanitation and GMP requirements have been met.

Documents abnormal findings and corrective actions utilizing proper forms such as foreign material findings, breakage, etc.

Performs re-cleaning as issues are identified during inspections.

Utilizes chemicals and cleaning equipment properly and safely.

Performs chemical titrations to ensure the correct concentration is utilized.

Troubleshoots issues and cleaning challenges, implements best practices, and solves problems.

Oversees training of Sanitation Technicians to ensure competency and adherence to guidelines.

Communicates with Quality, Production, and Maintenance regarding issues with equipment.

Oversees chemical and supply inventories.

Communicates with vendors as needed regarding chemicals, supplies, and cleaning challenges.

Understands and enforces requirements for cleaning and sanitation prior to production of Organic items.

Understands preparation needed for production of Kosher items.

Understands and complies with all workplace safety guidelines including but not limited to personal protective equipment usage, chemical safety, electrical safety, lockout-tag out, and confined spaces.

Understands and complies with Good Manufacturing Practices, foreign material control, product protection, allergen management, food defense, and other food safety and quality guidelines.

Represents themselves positively and professionally in all JES activities and communications, both internally and externally.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Education and/or Experience

3+ years of food manufacturing sanitation experience


Language Skills

Able to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.

Able to write simple correspondence.

Able to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to auditors, regulatory inspectors, and other Team Members of the organization.


Mathematical Skills

Skilled to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

Capable of computing rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.


Reasoning Ability

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.

Able to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.


Computer Skills

To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Email, Database software, Spreadsheet software, and Word Processing software.


Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

Valid Ohio Drivers License and good driving record


Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand; walk; sit and talk or hear.

The employee is frequently required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel.

The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. The employee may occasionally lift and/or move up to 70 pounds.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and color vision.


Work Environment

While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts.

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
