Job Purpose:

The Associate Laboratory Technician is accountable for providing general quality assurance and food safety technical support in the following areas of focus: performing quality testing procedures, data collection and analysis, process documentation and supporting knowledge transfer, sample management and sample handling, and basic instrument diagnostics and maintenance.

Typically works alongside a supervisor. Food/cultivate safety and quality assurance duties typically follow a day-to-day routine with little variation, in each of the focus areas.

At this level, work is performed under direct supervision and the role is expected to handle basic issues and problems, while referring more complex issues to higher-level staff. Do you have a passion for food safety and making a difference?


Key Accountabilities:

  • Assists by collecting and preparing samples, carrying out testing procedures and making measurements with scientific equipment.
  • Works with team to ensure all products meets or exceeds the written specification. Provides non-technical or basic technical support to laboratory personnel, including conducting quality checks on finished products, assisting in auditing laboratory results, handling specification changes, and maintaining customer specifications books up to date.
  • Interacts with contracted laboratories to obtain testing and analytical information for customers.
  • Provides customer with samples and data from production run and quality analysis. Responsible for accurately reporting data in company systems, and on customer-facing documents.
  • Assists management in monitoring and training personnel in good laboratory practices to ensure quality product and information for customers.
  • Follows compliance programs which includes monitoring adherence to USDA food safety regulations and other procedural compliance such as sanitation standard procedures (SSOP’s) and operational and pre-operational verification procedures as outlined for food safety.
  • Executes on formal quality programs around specification checks, process controls, and customer complaint investigations.
  • Assists in audits by attending audits, preparing required documents, and ensuring all documentation is completed, current and verified to support production management decisions.




Minimum Qualifications:

High school diploma / GED equivalent with minimum of 1 year of related lab work experience or production/manufacturing environment OR Advanced education in a science field.

Ability to work for short periods of time in adverse conditions of manufacturing (noise / dust / temperature variations)

Ability to lift 30 – 50 lbs


Preferred Qualifications:

  • At least one year of related experience or knowledge
  • Food industry/ feed grain processing
  • Entry level laboratory experience
  • Basic instrumentation skills
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
  • Basic knowledge of computers including Microsoft Outlook, Microsoft Excel, and Microsoft Word
