Working the 2nd Shift (2:45 PM-11:15 PM), the QC Chemist I tests materials for potency, identification and contaminants.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Independently prepares samples for instrumental analysis and runs standard methods on instruments.
  • Performs data interpretation and reporting.
  • Records and compares results to specifications. Notifies supervisor/lead when result is out-of- specification.
  • Orders supplies.
  • Dumps hazardous waste.
  • Performs housekeeping duties.
  • Uses the following types of instruments - FTIR, FT-NIR, HPLC, HPTLC, GC, UV-VIS, ICP/MS, LC/MS, pH meter, auto titrator, and balances.
  • Complies with safety and GMP requirements.



  • Supports a culture of safe production and operations; follows all safety rules and procedures.
  • Actively participates in the safety program by: engaging in training activities to learn what constitutes a safety hazard; reporting safety concerns to the supervisor, submitting safety suggestions, and correct or report to the appropriate people when you see a workplace health or safety hazard, until it is resolved.
  • Assists with communicating safety information to new employees.
  • Fulfills responsibilities as outlined in the company safety management plan.

  • Bachelor’s degree (B.S.) or equivalent from four-year college or technical school in laboratory science field (i.e. chemistry, biology, etc.) and two to five years laboratory experience including hands-on HPLC, GC, ICP/MS or LC/MS experience.
  • Familiarity with general laboratory equipment and basic computer skills are necessary.
  • Hands-on HPLC and/or GC experience preferred.
  • GC/MS instrumentation and MS interpretation skills highly desired.



  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as product specifications, departmental instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Able to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.



Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, averages, ratios, proportions, and the metric system to practical situations.



  • Able to compare results obtained to specifications to determine if result meets requirements.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions.



  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and change tasks frequently.
  • Ability to learn quickly, operate independently, and to assume responsibility for new tasks is necessary.

The employee is occasionally required to move from place to place within the facility, to reach, ascend and descend stairs, balance, or stoop, and move and install compressed gas cylinders and liquid nitrogen tanks. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and color vision. Good manual dexterity is required.
