Quality Assurance Supervisor

Department: Quality Assurance
Status: Exempt

Reports To: VP of Sales, President, and Vice President
Supervisory Responsibilities: Yes

Job Summary: Provides tactical planning and support to Leads and frontline workers. Contributes to and executes overall strategy. Responsible for product quality and the overall food safety of our outputs. The successful person in this position will provide discipline and consistency while making small, incremental changes to drive results.

Essential Functions:

  • Responsible for the maintenance and ongoing improvement of the following food safety programs: SQF, FSMA, Gluten-Free, Non-GMO, Kosher, Halal, and Organic Program
  • Responsible for employee adherence to GMPs, food safety and quality policies.
  • Maintain and implement cleaning schedules and alter them as needed to respond to the plant schedule.
  • Communicate expectations to employees regarding quality, safety, delivery, cost, attitude, and effort.
  • Develop Standard Operating Procedures, Standard Sanitation Operating Procedures, Maintenance Schedules, etc.
  • Ensure appropriate food safety and quality training is delivered to front-line employees and supervisors.
  • Conduct monthly SQF/FSMA Management Meetings and Lead HACCP committee meetings at a minimum annually or more often if necessary.
  • Responsible for ensuring our food safety system is challenged annually by conducting a Crisis Management Test, Mock Recall/Traceback Test, Food Defense Challenge, etc.
  • Oversee that all calibrations are carried out at the appropriate frequency.
  • Maintain records of the food safety system in its entirety.
  • Provide timely praise and disciplinary action as necessary.
  • Responsible for overseeing the Continuous Improvement of the SQF and FSMA system
  • Prevent, investigate, and document food safety incidents.
  • Conduct audits with 3rd party auditors.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Bachelor’s Degree (BA) from four-year college/university OR, three to five years of related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Bi-lingual in English/Spanish is preferred.
  • HACCP Certification is preferred.
  • SQF Practitioner Certification is preferred.
  • Preventative Qualified Individual Certification is preferred.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to write routine reports, correspondence, and to create procedures.
  • Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of the organization.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of variables in situations where only limited information exists.
  • Ability to make and justify timely and appropriate decisions.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and some understanding of MRP.

Working Conditions/Physical Factors:

  • Exposure to wet and/or humid conditions. Temperatures below 40 degrees and above 90 degrees for periods of more than one hour.
  • Exposure to a loud working environment, hearing protection is mandatory.
  • Exposure to hazards in the workplace such as proximity to equipment conducting extreme heat, moving parts, and electrical current.
  • Must be able to work in environment containing allergens (hazelnuts, etc.).
  • Must be able to stand and walk for prolonged periods of time.
  • Must be able to commute between processing plants (valid driver’s license required).
  • Occasionally required to use hands and fingers.
  • Frequently required to talk or hear.
  • Frequently required to taste and smell.

Salary: $45,000.00 to $65,000.00 /year depending on experience

COVID-19 considerations:

Employees will be issued PPE; face mask, gloves, boots, lab coat, in which they will be required to wear while working in the processing plant. Must wash hands before entering production/lab and must maintain 6 feet of distance when physically able.
