Summary / Position Purpose: The Director of Food Safety & Quality will be directly responsible for ensuring the execution of strategic and tactical objectives related to food safety and quality, regulatory and internal compliance, auditing, product recall, and microbiological testing.  In addition to leading the food safety & quality programs at the manufacturing site, this role will also serve as our subject matter expert (SME) as it relates to product specification communication to our customers, label review, and additional duties surrounding regulatory compliance.  Ultimately, the role of the Director of Food Safety & Quality is to ensure that all our products meet or exceed our customers expectation, while fostering an environment of continuous improvement within the plant, across our co-manufacturers and throughout the supply chain.


This position will report directly to the Vice President of Operations, with interaction from our Research & Development, Sales, and Marketing Teams.



Principle Accountabilities:  Activities performed on a regular basis with desired result that your position is expected to achieve.


  • Function as a technical expert regarding food safety and quality systems within the company, including regulatory and company policy, FSMA final rules, GFSI Food Standards, etc.
  • Complete responsibility for the day to day execution of our internal food safety & quality systems across the local site operations and co-manufacturers
  • Drive continuous improvement efforts related to product quality and process performance standards throughout the operations
  • Ensure regulatory, product safety, and compliance with company standards across all product lines
  • Prepare the organization for heightened regulatory expectations by developing enhanced quality and food safety systems throughout the supply chain
  • Ensure all plant quality systems reman in compliance with FDA and regulatory programs
  • Serve as the lead and subject matter expert during our annual BRC audit and customer audits
  • Ensure all HACCP, sanitation, pest control, and GMP practices remain up to date, while also ensuring compliance throughout the operations
  • Conduct initial qualification and annual audits/assessments of our suppliers and 3PL facilities
  • Assist with the maintenance of the Peak Foods products nutritional and specification information
  • Lead implementation of site performance monitoring activities, ensuring site compliance and adherence to process and policy
  • Track and monitor factory quality related KPI’s
  • Work closely with the R&D and Sales Teams on new product development from ideation to commercialization
  • Develop department spend budget (labor & expense) annually and track progress monthly vs budget
  • Assist with the on-boarding of new employees as the training content relates to Foods Safety & Quality process, procedure and policy
  • Work with the Peak Foods Customer Service Team to formally address customer complaints
  • Work with the Peak Foods Operations Team to lead supplier-based root cause analysis and corrective action activities related to incoming raw materials and packaging components
  • Lead site document control and change control programs, while also working with the Engineering / Maintenance Manager to support the MOC process as it relates to our PSM program
  • Ensure that Peak Foods remains current and compliant with all United States and Canadian regulations by reviewing the requirements/changes on an annual basis
  • Duties and tasks as assigned by Vice President of Operations



Knowledge / Experience / Competencies:


  • 10 Years of experience in Quality Assurance Management, preferably in a food manufacturing environment
  • BS in Chemistry / Food Science preferred
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and implement, and sustain plant quality, sanitation, and process related policies and procedures
  • Familiarity with Good Manufacturing Practices and HACCP
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as: food safety procedures, safety procedures, analytical procedures, microbiology procedures
  • Ability to lead and mentor Operations Quality Team
  • Demonstrated ability to measure, analyze and improve a process utilizing data
  • Ability to effectively delegate department tasks to team based on skill, knowledge and abilities
  • Develop organizational talent, skill-set and competencies within the Operations Quality Team
  • Ability to interface with a computer and software applications
  • Must be able to work with a high degree of accuracy
  • Work with a team, as a team member, and as team leader
