Sr. Extrusion Process Technician

Looking for a challenging opportunity to use your knowledge and experience in plastic extrusion operations and processes? Dura-Line is searching for a Sr. Extrusion Process Technician for our Clinton, TN plant.

Highlights of role:

Maintain documentation of optimal extrusion process parameters, manage extrusion tooling, run production trials, and create training material. Responsible for meeting safety, quality and production goals. Monitor and operate production line controls, troubleshoot and adjust equipment, improve training documentation to help meet production OEE goals.

What you will be doing:

  • Following all safety requirements and company safety procedures.
  • Performing production trials for new products, processes, and experiments. Documenting and standardizing process parameters for extrusion lines in an appropriate level of detail for operations.
  • Establishing limits of equipment adjustments and preparing extrusion line setup documents.
  • Managing the inventory, inspection, and use of appropriate extrusion tooling.
  • Developing and implementing a new tooling management system.
  • Performing and documenting procedures for routine preventive maintenance on equipment. For example: cleaning vacuum tank filters, changing extruder screens, inspecting oil levels.
  • Creating and managing production training materials including work instructions, process documentation, troubleshooting guides, and videos.
  • Providing support for training production employees
  • Verifying production performance versus targets, recommending improvement solutions.
  • Team participation in establishing and sustaining 5S standards. Conduct audits in 5S program and support maintenance of system.
  • Participate in Lean activities and Team projects (SMED, Kaizen, Moonshine Shops, etc.)
  • Perform other duties as assigned by Plant Management.

What you need to be successful in this role:

  • High school diploma or GED required. Technical/Vocational School certification(s) preferred.
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in plastic extrusion manufacturing.
  • Proficient skills with Microsoft Office Word and Excel.
  • Familiarity with SAP system and Bill Of Materials.
  • Ability to inspect, recommend adjustments and/or repairs to plastic extrusion production processes and tooling. Working knowledge and understanding of blueprints, inspecting and measurement tools (micrometers, calipers, etc.)
  • High mechanical aptitude; the ability to learn and apply knowledge about extrusion machinery, equipment and processes in duties and responsibilities.
  • Firm understanding of instrumentation: the use of measuring instruments for observation, monitoring, or control.
  • Experience with operations and process monitoring: watching gauges, dials, or other indicators to ensure machinery is working to full capacity and efficiency.
  • Understanding of SPC.
  • Demonstrated analytical and troubleshooting skills.
  • Ability to verbally communicate, read and write in the English language.

What you need to work in the environment:

  • Ability to lift 50 pounds with or without assistance, and lift more than 100 pounds with assistance.
  • Ability to bend, stoop, kneel, twist at wait and climb.
  • Ability to hear equipment, view and discern defective product, and sense temperature changes in the finished product.
  • Ability to move from one area of manufacturing plant to another.
  • Ability to work around and with hot extrusion process equipment.
  • Ability to adhere to safety shoes and safety glasses requirement.
