Produce Food Safety Quality Manager - Arizona

This position is responsible for managing the food safety and quality risks for produce, at the field level. The Field Food Safety Quality Manager will partner with key stakeholders to evolve existing produce food safety programs and alignment quality assessments and approaches within different growing regions. The Field Food Safety Quality Manager will proactively work with exclusive brand suppliers and suppliers to our manufacturing facility to build process controls to reduce/eliminate food safety and quality risk failures to deliver with excellence to our customers.

  • Further develop, evolve field food safety and quality assessment criteria and programs. Creating alignment in approach across multiple regional entities.

 

  • Collaborates with all existing vendors within the category to maintain product specifications, at the field level, for branded products to ensure consistent adherence to food safety and quality requirements. This requires teaming up with the category management team to hold suppliers accountable to US Foods requirements.

 

  • Conducts vendor facility risk assessments both through reviewing documentation and by conducting fresh produce food safety inspections/audits at the farm, packhouse, and facility level, with the ability to cohesively summarize and evaluate inspection and audit findings.

 

  • Technical expert in produce, across multiple commodities to include; critical to quality attributes, applicable state laws, processing techniques, environmental monitoring and general microbiology.

 

  • Develop and train direct reports on all aspects of food safety and quality initiatives.

 

  • Actively manages supplier, customer and internal feedback to move US Foods to a proactive/predictive state in managing product quality and driving continuous improvement.

 

  • Analyze complaint and product evaluation data to identify trends and opportunities with products and vendors to drive continuous improvement.

SUPERVISION
This position will have direct reports, including third party quality auditors

RELATIONSHIPS
Internal: Category Management Teams, Regional Sourcing Teams, Merchandising FSQ team, Regulatory Compliance, FSQ D team, Marketing and Field Sales
External: Suppliers, FDA, USDA-AMS, Customers

Education/Training:

- B.Sc. in agriculture, plant science, crop and soil science, food science, or other related field; or the equivalent of 4 - additional years of related work experience

  • Advanced degree preferred.
  • Lead Auditor Certification in Primus GFS, Global G.A.P or similar preferred
  • PCQI/HACCP certified

Related Experience:

  • Minimum of 5 years Food Safety Quality management experience in the fresh produce sector (minimum of 9 years required if no Bachelor's degree)
  • Demonstrated knowledge of FDA, FSMA and the Produce Rule, Good Agricultural Practices and LGMA requirements
  • Experience or training with pesticide use and management

  • Strong interpersonal skills required, including the ability to interact across multiple organizational levels

- Multilingual - English and Spanish


Travel:
- Up to 20-30% travel - Some travel may be out of the country.
