  • Together with the Director of Brands, this role will provide strategic direction for internal systems as it relates to all aspects of packaging for our branded products

This is a time at Gordon Food Service where strategies for growth in our business will allow us to continue to pivot as a leader in the food service industry. This has presented an opportunity for us to onboard a North American Brands Packaging and Operations Manager. This role will be instrumental in ensuring that brand packaging is consistent with packaging standards and ensures all standards are maintained. With a working knowledge of Packaging Engineering, this role will be able to direct manufacturers into packaging specs that would be consistent with our brand messaging while working closely with core data, quality assurance and category management to ensure that brand messaging is consistent between our electronic and packaging fronts. This Brands Packaging and Operations Manager will lead the charge for product packaging, packaging innovation and the functionality of how it goes into the system. Be part of it!

Responsibilities & Qualifications:

How will you impact the business?

  • By ensuring that brand packaging graphic standards are developed for all brands, and that brand packaging content is consistent with packaging standards.
  • Reviewing and developing structural packaging standards to ensure consistency with brand messaging, and warehousing and transportation requirements.
  • Responsibility for managing the relationship with outside companies that create pre-press artwork.
  • Manages work-assignments and processes for the North American packaging team.
  • Advises category directors and suppliers when additional efforts are needed to maintain packaging timelines.
  • Works with Category teams to develop processes ensuring content in GFS systems is consistent with brand messaging.
  • Works collaboratively with our North American supplier partners to foster packaging changes and drive innovation at the supplier level.
  • Works collaboratively with our supply chain, warehousing and transportation teams to develop packaging solutions to optimize our business processes, ensure structural integrity of packaging and control costs and waste.
  • Work closely with our Quality Assurance team to ensure compliance with North American product packaging regulations.

 

Our Ideal Candidate will have:

  • Five or more years previous experience in product brand positioning or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Packaging Engineering. Masters degree in Packaging with an emphasis in Food Safety and/or marketing would be beneficial but not required.
  • Strong Business and Brand Management skills, including the ability to identify, develop, or evaluate packaging strategy, based on knowledge of establishment objectives, market characteristics, and cost and markup factors.
  • Knowledge of principles and methods for packaging design, materials, equipment and systems, including new innovations in packaging technology and sustainability.
  • Analytical skills and experience in problem solving; strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Previous team management experience preferred.
