POSITION OVERVIEW:

In conjunction with the SHE director and other regional SHE managers, he/she will participate in the development and implementation of corporate safety programs and management systems. Provide direction to SHE professionals, plant leadership teams and employees in all matters related to safety including goal attainment for each facility under his/her direction. He/she will evaluate the effectiveness of the safety program and recommend modifications as needed to reduce injuries and illnesses.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Lead efforts toward building safety programs and improving culture to reduce the incidence of worker injuries.
  • Develop and continuously improve safety procedures, standards and tools of the safety program (self-assessment, job aids, training, audit, etc.).
  • Lead and/or assist in the implementation and maintenance of safety procedures standards and programs in the facilities under his/her purview.
  • Provide quality, timely and professional subject matter expertise and support to ensure that a safe, sustainable, efficient and legally compliant work environment is established in the facilities under his/her region.
  • Collaborate with SHE managers to ensure that safety strategies and programs align with regulations, corporate expectations, and policies.
  • Review accident investigations conducted by SHE managers for identification of accident causes and measures taken to prevent reoccurrence.
  • Assist in the strategic and business goal planning within the corporate SHE department to enhance the safety performance of the region.
  • Provide operational and strategic leadership to SHE managers and is accountable for appropriate escalation and resolution of issues.
  • Train and mentors less experienced SHE professionals
  • Evaluate and measures performance metrics and improves processes, as needed.
  • Participate and conduct safety audits as directed.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • BA/BS in safety, science or related disciplines
  • Minimum 8 years of experience in an industrial, manufacturing environment required or 10 years of experience in safety and a two-year degree
  • Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) preferred
  • Knowledge and understanding of OSHA and use of US and International safety standards - American National Safety Institute (ANSI) International Standard Organization (ISO) required.
  • Management experience with direct and/or indirect reports, ability to influence, works collaboratively and builds relationships at all levels.
  • Strong analytical skills and ability to develop solutions to complex problems, applying ingenuity, innovation, and creativity.
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize tasks.
  • Able to work in a self-directed fashion and a fast-paced environment.
  • Must be flexible with time and be available to occasionally work nights or weekends.
