Overview:

Experienced Safety Manager, who is energetic and self-motivated with a positive attitude, who will ensure our workplace is in full compliance with all Federal, State and Local requirements as it relates to Safety and Security. This position will work to improve plant-wide practices and accountability with assistance of company staff.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and execute health and safety plans in the workplace according to legal guidelines.
  • Prepare and enforce programs/policies to establish a culture of health and safety.
  • Keeps apprised of Federal and State Safety and Food Security regulations likely to affect the company.
  • Work with all departments as technical resource in Safety and Security regulations and best practices.
  • Primary company liaison with OSHA/Cal OSHA including representing the company during regulatory investigation and audits.
  • Audit Safety and Security Program(s) for compliance and effectiveness. Ensure all required onsite records and reports are complete, accurate and submitted per established procedures.
  • Develop and deliver training that fit the specific needs of both regulatory safety/security requirements (on-line & classroom based), in conjunction with Company Safety Programs.
  • Oversee Job Safety Analysis development with appropriate departments.
  • Guide Supervisors and Managers through accident investigation/root cause analysis.
  • Facilitate management safety meetings, reviewing injury statistics and corrective actions, communicate department safety performance.
  • Establish and maintain a presence with the workforce, by performing walk-throughs, meetings, inspections, and being accessible to all associates in the work environment
  • Provides job orientation to crew and contractors at jobsites.
  • Reviews and approves PPE.
  • Oversee the Emergency Response Plan.
  • Coordinate HAZWOPER training for IC and Tech Level Employees.
  • Oversees and ensures training and capability of Hazmat Team.
  • Maintain SDS.
  • Monitor security operation, assess physical site security and advise management of deficiencies with recommendations.
  • Create and manage department budget.
  • Perform other duties as required.

Qualifications:

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Experienced Safety Manager with responsibilities in Manufacturing Environment.
  • Experience with site security preferred.
  • Ability to read, comprehend and interpret technical procedures and governmental regulations, (OSHA, Cal OSHA, NFPA, ANSI).
  • Experience communicating with external agencies.
  • Experience with ergonomics and industrial hygiene a plus.
  • Strong computer skills in Word, Excel, and Power Point
  • Strong analytical, problem solving and organizational skills, ability to handle multiple projects through to completion.
  • Strong Communications skills with the ability to effectively communicate and present information to all levels of management.
  • Demonstrated independent work initiative, sound judgment, diplomacy and professional demeanor to lead and manage staff.
  • Certified Safety Professional preferred.
  • Forklift Train the Trainer Certification Preferred.

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelorís degree in Occupational Health and Safety and 3-5 years of progressive production manufacturing experience in a safety management role or;
  • 5-10 years of progressive production manufacturing experience in a safety management role within the food/manufacturing industry.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must be able to pass job specific Physical Ability Test (PAT).
  • Employee is occasionally required to balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl.
  • Ability to work in extreme temperatures both indoors and outdoors.
  • Exposure to noise levels associated with warehouse/production equipment.
  • Must be able to climb stairs and ladders of various heights.
  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds at various frequencies.
  • Ability to perform tasks requiring bending, stooping, standing and twisting as needed to.
  • Flexibility to work different shifts and days when required.

TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS:

  • As needed for company related training
  • Able to travel to out of state sister facilities if required
