Position Summary:
Responsible for and takes part in all operational
activities at the facility. This includes supervision of vessel loading
staff, barge unloading staff, control room staff and elevator staff. This
role is actively involved in and responsible for achieving facility
production goals and monitoring all facility safety and environmental
parameters to enable the plant to operate maximum capacity, while supporting
the policies, goals and objectives of the company.
Core Functions:
- Provide
support to Shift Superintendent or Logistics Manager to ensure that
daily operations are in compliance with
regulatory and company requirements and ensure that the plant operates
efficiently and safely.
- Promote
safety program of the facility and ensure that all work is performed safely
and that hazards are anticipated and managed properly and conduct
toolbox safety talks.
- Assist
Shift Superintendent with directing the work of hourly employees while
maintaining employee relations and enforcement of the Union Labor
Agreement.
- Provide
training, counseling and coaching of hourly
shift operations employees as needed to achieve operational standards.
- Ensure
all production activities involved in the Operations Department are
carried out in accordance to maximize productivity and maintain grain
quality, execute vessel loading plans, while following all environmental
and governmental policies, regulations and
standards.
- Line
out housekeeping staff to ensure sanitation requirements are maintained.
- Assists
with diagnosing and troubleshooting maintenance related issues.
- Provide
information to the shift superintendent for the documenting and
reporting of daily operational reports which will include incident
reports, emissions reports, housekeeping log and SAP repair
notifications.
- Other
duties as assigned.
Skill/Experience Requirements:
- Bachelor’s
degree preferred; will consider Associates degree from two-year college
in a related technical field or certificate of diploma from trade
school.
- 3
or more years of related operations work experience required.
- Become
knowledgeable in grain and grain byproduct quality factors and
inspection techniques
- Acquire
and maintain working knowledge of computer/PLC-based operating equipment
- Develop
and apply leadership and management skills
- Develop
a well-trained team focused on safety, productivity, quality
and environmental issues
- Demonstrate
and institute our core values

- Develop
and maintain a good working knowledge of plant processes
- Supervise
the activities of a 6-15 person crew with
safety as the number one priority
- Computer
skills using basic office software for word processing, spread sheets
and email.

ability to work in a team environment to maintain good working
relationship with other facility personnel
- Demonstrated
ability to work in a safety conscious environment
- Some
mechanical background including the ability to recognize signs of operation
failure
- Basic
written and verbal communications skills
- Flexible
in working hours, as this position requires an 8-12 hour rotating shift
