Food Safety Quality Technician– Momence Packing

Position Overview:

As the Food Safety Quality Technician , you will be responsible for maintenance, implementation and training of food safety and quality programs for Momence Packing. You will ensure daily HACCP, SSOP and SOP documentation is complete and properly reviewed and filed. This role involves interacting with USDA-FSIS inspectors on a regular basis and serving as liaison between the plant and USDA. Your contribution will help ensure that Johnsonville products meet or exceed our defined standards of food safety, quality and consistency.

This position is a great opportunity for someone who is looking to grow within the Food Safety Quality field.

Responsibilities:

  • Train new and existing members in GMP, food safety and quality programs
  • Utilize auditing skills to verify food safety and quality programs are implemented and product quality standards are maintained
  • Identify, define and solve food safety and quality issues while considering the impact to the business
  • Lead third party audits with exceptional results
  • With minimal instruction, lead a team or project to an expected outcome or completion
  • Maintain HACCP plan by performing HACCP reassessments and updates as required
  • Ensure the daily HACCP documentation is completed, verification and pre-shipments are reviewed, and proper follow-ups are documented
  • Maintain plant SSOP plan and ensure all daily SSOP documentation is completed and properly filed
  • Participate in incident/defective product tracking, decision-making and ensure proper disposition, incident documentation, and assist in ensuring hold tag database accuracy
  • Perform daily plant walkthroughs looking for GMP compliance
  • Revise, review and update SOPs as required in SAP/ PLM/DMS
  • Work with cross-functional teams
  • Back-up the Assistant Food Safety/Quality Coordinator

Education

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Biology, Microbiology, Food Safety or a related field required
    • Internal candidates without a Bachelor’s degree must be currently enrolled in a Bachelor‘s degree program or willing to pursue

Experience:

  • Minimum of two years’ experience working in a food processing facility preferred
  • Experience working under regulatory system, USDA-FSIS desired

Skills and Competencies:

  • Intermediate knowledge of food safety requirements and HACCP certifiable
  • Understanding of quality and sanitation systems with ability to execute against them
  • Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office
  • Basic understanding of statistical quality tools
  • SAP experience desired
  • Ability to lead third party audits and SQF program experience desired

Hours: 1st shift hours with some flexibility – 5:00 am - 2:00 pm

Occasional weekend work on rotational basis

Status: Full Time Hourly non-exempt
