About the role:
The Food Safety and Microbiology Sr. Manager is
responsible to keep abreast of changes in technology and processes and to
ensure compliance for the 18 manufacturing facilities in the Americas region
to BC food safety policies, standards and procedures as needed to ensure that
regulatory, GFSI certification and customer requirements with respect to food
safety are achieved or exceeded.
The Americas Food Safety Sr. Manager is a regional subject matter expert with
regard to Micro, Sanitation, Sanitary Design, Environmental Monitoring,
Allergens and Toxicology food safety risks.
Key responsibilities include:
Drive Compliance of Americas Manufacturing Plants to BC’s Food Safety
Standards
- Lead
the Micro, Allergen and Chemical food safety risk assessments for
internal plants and co-manufacturers to inform business decisions
- Drive
control and prevention programs in HACCP and food safety plans by
sharing best practices, support when issues occur and providing expert
advice on prevention and control systems
- Analyse and Review Issues to identify gaps
against standards that require further training or review of standards
- Ensure
reliability of laboratory results through assessments and proficiency
tests (internal and external).
- Deliver
training on food safety related programs
- Lead
updates and reviews of critical programs to ensure alignment with the BC
global team and roll out to local sites
Provide expertise and support by
partnering with R&D, Supply Chain, Customer Service and Procurement
- Ensure
application of risk assessments in the development of ingredients,
products and processes to help identify solutions. Ensure food safety is
engaged in process and develop appropriate training for R&D
- Author
Statements related to Food Safety as and when required
- Lead
specific Food Safety Projects, as and when required
- Support
in Issue Management, as and when required - - Provide support for
emerging challenges and provide technical solutions
- Continuously
improve own food safety related knowledge
Drive improvement of BC’s Food
Safety Standards and Strategy
- Contribute
to improvement of Food Safety Policies, Standards, Procedures and
Programs applicable to BC sites and suppliers, based on new developments
in technology and processes, industry best practices, GFSI standards and
customer requirements.
- Support
the BC Food Safety expert community and specific core expert network(s)
to share knowledge, information and best practices.
- Support
food safety validation of emerging technologies, processes and products
- Contribute
to the BC corporate Food Safety and Quality FSSC 22000 certification
- Participate
in the development of global training programs such asn:
- Micro,
Allergens and Toxicology risks
- HACCP
- BC
Standards and requirements
Work with Customer Food Safety
experts, Research Centers and Universities
- Interact
and work with external groups (research, industry groups) on emerging
issues and new technologies in areas of expertise to represent Barry
Callebaut
- Represent
Barry Callebaut in Symposia/Conferences
- Managing
Projects in cooperation with external parties
- Represent
Barry Callebaut with customers on food safety discussions
Work closely with Regional and
Local Quality, Food Safety, Plant and Production, Engineering/OSCO, Business
Development, R&D, and Innovation teams
- An
internal consultant with expert view based on science, regulatory and
industry experience
- Partner
with engineering to ensure sanitary design of all new capital projects
and investments in manufacturing facilities
- Food
Safety Auditing
- Review
of CAPA (action plans)
- Oversee
roaster validations
- Assist
with Sanitation processes (new equipment, special cleaning, sanitizers,
& frequency of cleaning.)
- Collaborate
on building & equipment design standards
Education:
- Master
degree in Microbiology, Food Science or equivalent
- Formal
training in HACCP
- Advanced
training in Microbiology, Sanitation and Sanitary Design
- PCQI
Work Experience:
- 10+
years experience at a GFSI certified food
manufacturer
- Experience
in communicating with customers, auditors and regulatory agencies.
- Experience
performing audits of internal and external food safety audits for
facilities/suppliers
- Experience
working with the design and implementation of food safety plans /
programs.
- Experience
with Root Cause Analysis and Continuous Improvement
- Experience
working with, designing and implementing Environmental Monitoring
Program
