Full Job Description
The Corporate Food Scientist assists in the
coordination of internal and external microbiological related activities for
the organization. It also provides support to the Plant QA Managers as needed
and supports the commercialization and product assessment process of new
products. It also has a thorough understanding of Plant QA Managers roles and
record keeping and can perform those duties on a temporary basis. This
individual has an in depth understanding of Food Science and Food
Microbiology and its applications and can competently execute sampling and
testing activities as appropriate including the effective review and
reporting of results to upper management. This individual provides training
for plant personnel assigned with sampling and testing and manages the annual
laboratory competency program. This individual also has a thorough knowledge
of sanitation processes and lends plant support in sanitation as needed.

WHAT YOU’LL DO:
- Work closely
with Corporate QA, R&D and Plant QA Managers to understand their
needs and provide the necessary support as appropriate in the areas below.
- Research and
perform appropriate chemical, microbiological and physical testing as
necessary to support the technical aspects of product safety, quality
and performance.
- Effectively
record, review, analyze and report data to stakeholders as needed.
- Have a good
understanding of food regulatory requirements.
- Understand the
Plant QA Manger’s role and applicable record keeping and be able to fill
in as needed to do record reviews and Plant QA Department management on
a temporary basis.
- Assist in the
implementation and commercialization of new or modified products at the
plant level, including performing product food safety assessments.
- Assist Quality
Managers in the development of their Food Safety Plans, Environmental
Monitoring Programs and finished product sampling and testing plans.
- Assist in
package development activities as directed.
- Assist in
thermal process development activities as directed.
- Formulate
goals annually that align with the company’s strategic plan.
- Maintain a
working knowledge of sanitation programs and procedures and provide
plant support as necessary. Participate in pre-pack plant approval
activities.
- Assist in
Product Development activities as directed including the production and
submission of product samples.
- Develop a
thorough understanding of reporting processes associated with all
Corporate Quality Department functions and use of SAP.

- Most work is
conducted in a normal laboratory or office environment. However, this
position requires regular visits to the production and packaging
facilities, which are typical of food manufacturing and may include
exposure to heat and humidity, moisture, slippery conditions, and so on.
- Trips to the
plants as well as occasional professional travel to other destinations
are by automobile or public transportations and require the capability
for independent travel.
- This position
also involves work in corporate and plant laboratories which would
include exposure to a typical food laboratory environment.
