Job Summary:
 This position is responsible for achieving specific corporate objectives of the H-E-B Bold Promise as relates to ensuring a safe work and shopping environment for Partners and customers while achieving the resulting expense reduction and containment.

Essential Functions / Process Responsibilities (other duties may be assigned as necessary):

  • Supervises the RM Safety and Project Supervisors as well as manage the entire RM Safety Staff
  • Researches and analyzes all available loss information to recommend the most effective use of resources to upper management

- Designs, develops, & implements accident & loss prevention guidelines/programs and specialized training processes for H-E-B Partners

  • Reviews and updates all existing programs and procedures as necessary to maintain compliance and effectiveness

- Coordinates with HR-Partner Learning to develop safety training programs for H-E-B Partners as part of the Job Skills Training program

  • Coordinates with Corporate Environmental Affairs to develop processes and procedures that overlap with Risk Management

- Coordinates with the Corporate Hazmat Coordinator to in the implementation of the H-E-B Hazmat program.
- Coordinates the Risk Management/Safety Web Site to reflect all H-E-B Safety and Training programs
- Coordinates with H-E-B Business Continuity Program

  • Coordinates with all safety related regulatory agencies to satisfy standards and requirements through compliance
  • Coordinates with the property insurance carrier regarding fire protection systems and additional property conservation measures

- Coordinates the H-E-B Owner-Controlled Insurance Program (OCIP)
- Facilitates the Process Safety Management program for control of ammonia exposure in the H-E-B Refrigeration facilities
- Facilitates with inter-company departments the fire protection system installation and maintenance requirements for H-E-B facilities
- Facilitates technical assistance/resources to all H-E-B management on any RM issues
- Facilitates education for H-E-B management personnel on OSHA, NFPA, and other applicable local, state/federal policies, standards & guidelines

Preferred Education and Experience

  • A related degree or comparable formal training, certification, or work experience
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in Retail and/ or safety-related field
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in a supervisory role in the area of Safety
  • Advanced knowledge and compliance in related areas: industry, OSHA, EEOC and Employment Laws
  • 2 yrs experience with Business Operations
  • 2 yrs experience with Safety and Accident Prevention Programs
  • 2 yrs experience with Work Injury and General Liability Programs
  • Professional Safety Certification and/or equivalent certification
  • Minimum 10-Hour OSHA Certification
  • Exceptional ability to communicate (written and verbal)
  • Demonstrated ability to train/present in front of large audiences

- Moderate PC skills and knowledge of the H-E-B network

  • Valid Texas Driver License
  • Bilingual preferred

  • Advanced knowledge of financial reports in one or more functional area(s)
  • Demonstrated success in process improvement initiatives within one department /

facility

Physical and Other Requirements

  • Function in a fast-paced, retail, office environment
  • Travel by car or airplane with overnight stays
  • Work extended hours
