General Summary:

The Manager, Environmental Health & Safety is responsible for managing the Environmental, Health, and Safety programs related to OSHA, EPA, and other state/local regulatory agencies for the entire plant location. Provides managers with plant safety reports, statistics, and provides leadership and development regarding environmental health and safety matters. Maintains site Safety Management System and develops corrective action plans to prevent reoccurring problems.

Principal Accountabilities:

  • 20% - Coordinates implementation of plant EHS policies and procedures to prevent injuries and ensure compliance with OSHA, EPA and other regulatory agencies and company requirements. 10% - Conducts and/or coordinates training in order to avoid injuries and comply with OSHA, EPA and company regulatory standards.
  • 10% - Coordinates activities of plant EHS teams to maximize resources and reduce loss drivers.
  • 10% - Assists operating departments and work teams implement safety and environmental projects; performs follow-up activities to ensure completion of open action items resulting from safety initiatives, safety committee activity, and employee suggestions.
  • 10% - Coordinates workers compensation activity at the plant; serves as liaison between the insurance carrier, medical department, Corporate Environmental Health and Safety department, and the local medical community. Administers return to work program.
  • 10% - Supervises day-to-day operation of the Paris Plant Medical Department.
  • 10% - Manages site environmental programs/permit compliance
  • 5% - Analyzes statistics to identify injury causes and supports facility efforts to prevent/reduce injuries based on trends.
  • 5% - Participates in engineering reviews of new equipment installations and new product/ingredient designs, purchasing requirements, and operating procedures to ensure compliance iwth federal, state, and company standards.
  • 5% - Attends company EH&S conferences; participates in Campbell's EH&S audits and 501 training sessions as needed.
  • 5% - Performs or coordinates industrial hygiene sampling (noise, air) in order to ensure employee exposure is in compliance with federal, state, and company standards. Ensures that corrective actions are taken to mediate exposure as required.

Job Complexity:

Determines root cause, recommends corrective action, and assesses effectiveness of response to various issues, such as injuries, safety inspection reports, vendor reports.

Administers CSC return to work program to minimize workers' compensation costs. For example, assesses medical restrictions imposed on injured workers and coordinates transitional duty assignments with Operations department. Interacts with medical providers to provide more detailed job task information as needed.

Job Specifications:

  • Bachelors Degree, preferably in Occupational Health and Safety or related field
  • 5-10 years of related experience, preferably in Food Manufacturing
  • Certifications / Licenses / Registrations: CSP preferred, but not required
  • Strong Microsoft Office skills, especially Excel and PowerPoint
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Strong presentation skills
  • Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills required; must effectively interact with all levels of management as well as hourly production workers.

Working Conditions:

Normal office environments; frequent exposure to plant environment (noise, heat, machinery, lift truck traffic, etc.); moderate travel.
