POSITION SUMMARY

The Innovation Scientist will support the development of new ingredients and technologies for innovative initiatives/platforms in the U.S. and globally.  This Scientist will lead and support concept ideation, design and manage bench-top experiments, and investigate and assess new ingredients, technologies and platforms for product development.  

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

·        Involvement in product and process development to support McCormick’s internal product development programs and platforms

·        Write and execute mid to long term innovation programs and projects in support of the business

·        Understand, lead, interact and manage projects performed in research oriented groups such as analytical and material technology as well as flavor and application group

·        Maintain state-of-the-art depth and breadth of knowledge in the areas including food science, seasoning product development, flavor and dairy technology, sensory science, etc.

·        Routinely and independently provide broad consultation to internal departments and business units

·        Have latitude for decisions such as technical program planning, project development and planning and technical assessment of customer needs

·        Collaborate and guide technology transfer initiatives with regional R&D team

 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS FOR SCIENTIST I

·        M.S. in Food Science, Food Technology, Chemistry

·        Intellectual curiosity, flexibility, demonstrate aptitude for complexity and innovative imagination and the ability to operate in “grey” space

·        Ability to identify gaps in technical expertise or facilities and communicate / implement possible solutions

·        High degree of ownership and professional commitment

·        Strong knowledge of sound experimental design

·        Ability to communicate findings to internal senior technical leaders and external customers

·        Basic understanding of product development, sensory science, and material technology

·        Passion for food

 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS FOR SCIENTIST II

·        PhD in Food Science, Food Technology, Chemistry OR M.S. in Food Science, Food Technology, Chemistry or closely related technical field + at least 3 years of experience in food product development, food ingredient research and/or flavor research

·        Intellectual curiosity, flexibility, demonstrate aptitude for complexity and innovative imagination and the ability to operate in “grey” space

·        Ability to identify gaps in technical expertise or facilities and communicate / implement possible solutions

·        High degree of ownership and professional commitment

·        Strong knowledge of sound experimental design

·        Ability to communicate findings to internal senior technical leaders and external customers

·        Basic understanding of product development, sensory science, and material technology

·        Passion for food

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS FOR SCIENTIST I

·        Experience in food product development, food ingredient research and/or flavor research

·        Experience leading projects and/or teams

·        Bilingual

·        Global work experience

·        Good presentation skills

·        Culinary training

·        Minimum 3 years of postgraduate food product development, food ingredient research, flavor research experience
