The headquarters for Trident Seafoods is located about five miles north of downtown Seattle in the small community of Ballard. Our corporate offices and our business style reflect the nature of commercial fishing and seafood processing -- proud, straightforward and functional.

Trident Seafoods is fast becoming a global company with an entrepreneurial heart and soul. You won’t find a lot of suits and ties, but you might hear business being conducted in more than half a dozen different languages.

Some of those at the top have literally worked their way up from a fish deck or a processing line.

This individual oversees the development of kitchen scale-up and bench top formulation testing of new product recipe concepts, as well as improvements to existing product formulations, on all items relating to a targeted number of specific customers by performing the following duties.

Essential Functions:

  1. May assists R&D Supervisor/Manager in bench top research and evaluation of new ingredients and product formulations, planning lab experiments, shelf life testing and production trials.
  2. Recommends and study methods to improve ingredient qualities and food production in areas of flavor, color, texture, nutritional value, convenience, and/or physical, chemical, and microbiological composition of foods.
  3. Collaborates with representatives from all departments within existing and potential accounts to assess requirements and collect information necessary in designing and making product recommendations.
  4. Evaluates feasibility of various ingredient/recipe components in terms of functionality, formula and availability of company manufacturing, acceptability to target customer/geographic region of account and Trident manufacturing capability.
  5. Compiles and records testing data and charts for ingredient performance, production test information/ summary and on-going projects.
  6. Initiates, produces and supplies existing or prototype product samples designed to meet target account needs.  Drafts provisional specifications on prototype products prepared for target customer sampling.
  7. Participates in sensory evaluations,  product cuttings / presentations to various vendors and customer groups introducing or re-acquainting them to specific products, ingredient features, benefits, requirements and application techniques.
  8. Involved in the development of new product food standards, safety and sanitary regulations.
  9. Prepares and ship out hand samples of new products for internal and external sampling/ evaluation.
  10. Participates in detailed evaluation of product requirements from raw materials to internal and external distribution of product.
  11. Maintains and manages paper files and computer records for all projects.
  12. Documents all tests (lab and plant run) results. Assists Quality Assurance staff on product audits when necessary.
  13. Helps in freezer clean up and keep track of frozen products.

Additional Responsibilities:

  1. Must be able to travel freely between the workplace and the location of our customers located throughout targeted regions.
  2. Performs other similar or related duties as requested or assigned.

Experience:  Extensive practical knowledge of the specific regions where business is conducted is preferred (e.g., Asia, Europe).  Exposure to Chain Foodservice and Restaurant markets segments is also beneficial.

Education:  Bachelor's degree (Bachelor of Science) from four-year college or university in Food Science/Technology with emphasis in Nutrition.

Special Training/Skills: Ability to read, analyze and interpret general business/ professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.  Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.  Ability to effectively present information and response to questions from groups of internal and external organization.  Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference.  Ability to understand, calculate and design portioning of fish blocks. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.  To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of email, spreadsheet software, word processing software and presentation software.  Since communication is key to building relations, knowledge of foreign languages is a benefit. 

Work Environment: While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

Physical Demands:  While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; reach with hands and arms and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.  Working in a “warm” environment (kitchen setting) is a norm.  Candidate is preferred to have no seafood allergy.

Mental Activities:  While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use customer service skills.  The employee is frequently required to utilize interpersonal, teamwork and basic programming skills.  The employee is occasionally required to use creativity, independent judgment, discretion, problem solving skills in day-to-day basis.
