R&D Technologist
Taylor Farms Pacific, Inc. - Tracy, CA

 

 

Summary of Responsibilities:

R&D Technologist conducts shelf life validation of assigned new and/or existing products. This position will require regular interactions with other departments such as purchasing, R&D, QA, production, and warehouse. This position will also assist production and QA during product launches.

Essential Functions:

  • Perform initial formulation and ingredient review on recipes using Food Safety Standards and Scientific references
  • Independently carry out shelf life validation, which includes sensory evaluation, headspace analysis, packaging options on new or existing products
  • Document and review shelf life evaluation data and make appropriate recommendations for next round of testing
  • Report shelf life validation results to the PD team in bi-weekly basis through written and/or oral reports
  • Work closely with Process Development Specialist in technical problem solving related to the development of food products and processes.
  • Assist Production and QA during product launches, which includes but not limited to providing job aids for product assembly and being present on the floor during launch to verify process and product against specifications
  • Work with Regulatory team in reviewing and approving Food Label Artworks prior to product launch

Requirements:
Bilingual English/Spanish preferred

  • Excellent communication skills-written, verbal and interpersonal
  • Excellent documentation and record keeping
  • Detail oriented
  • Proficient in Excel, Word, PowerPoint; able to learn new programs
  • Knowledge of GMP, HACCP, Food Safety and Food Labeling (FDA and USDA).
  • Experience in Fresh-Cut, Deli products and MAP (Modified Atmosphere Packaging) a plus
  • Experience and skills in sensory evaluation a plus
  • Bachelor degree in Food Science, Food Microbiology, Post-Harvest/Plant Biology, Biological Sciences preferred
  • Stand and walk for long period of time
  • Work in a refrigerated environment
  • Must be able to safely lift 25 pounds
