Purpose of Role

This position supports the evaluation and continuous improvement of quality systems across the business unit and sites.  This position works closely with Supply, Commercial, Sales, Consumer Care and other R&D Teams to audit internal quality systems and processes to ensure consistent product quality throughout the pipeline. This position is also involved in reporting key metrics on site performance and providing feedback on potential changes to the Global Standards as well as supporting Q&FS training across the BU.

 

Principal Accountabilities

  • Manages the business unit internal quality audit function and assures the effectiveness of the corrective and preventative action process within the framework of the business units Quality Management System.
  • Manages the Quality Systems programs for the Business Unit including Coordinate of the annual Mars QMP audit, the Internal Auditing program, Q&FS
  • Develops internal audit schedule for business unit and delivers to agreed timelines
  • Delivers technical training programs for quality programs, and participates in the development of competency training packages for other departments. (CAPA/RCA/QMP)
  • Administrator for Business Unit CAPA program, Document Control Program as well as Serious Incident Review Board CAPA program for sites and BU
  • Provides governance for site metric and conformance programs. Provides or assembles data for Management Reviews and Global Quality Metrics and drives continuous improvement of quality systems, standards and procedures
  • Represents the North American Region on Global HACCP team
  • Facilitator for Q&FS School/College

Key Functional Skills/Knowledge

  • Knowledge in Food Safety Standards and management systems such as: SQF, ISO, HACCP, FSSC scheme
  • Working knowledge of food science, health and nutrition, food manufacturing processes, and quality assurance principles.
  • Working knowledge of regulatory requirements for pet food in the United States & Canada as well as other countries that distribute Nutro products.
  • Knowledge about ingredient and risks associated with them in regards to quality and food safety.
  • Auditing: Ability to analyze and troubleshoot quality systems and their impact on end users; the expertise of the position will be regularly sought for their contributions and must understand the quality processes.
  • Project & Change Management Processes
  • Working knowledge of Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills and team working behavior.

 

Minimum Qualifications

  • B.S. in Chemistry, Food Science, Engineering or related technical field required
  • 3-5 years of experience in a technical area such as R&D, product development, laboratory management, quality management systems, or food process engineering.
  • Experience accomplishing goals through others
  • Basic understanding of regulatory and food law, including AAFCO Guidelines
