Job Description:

POSITION DESCRIPTION:  

Product formulation and development role focused on plant based beverages for the Silk and So Delicious brands.  This role will work cross functionally across various departments to lead the development of new products and reformulations of existing products to add value to the WhiteWave brand portfolio. 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Work with cross-functional teams in the development of new product formulations and/or reformulations of existing products
  • Manage a portfolio of assigned product development projects through the various stages of the product development life cycle
  • Source ingredients
  • Meet cost objectives
  • Evaluate current processing capabilities
  • Coordinate production start-up
  • Facilitate product development by working with vendors
  • Lead pilot plant testing of experimental formulations
  • Lead plant trial testing
  • Provide equivalent or improved product quality and cost savings by evaluating new suppliers/ingredients
  • Establish production parameters and processing procedures by drafting product specifications
  • Confirm that products will meet code by conducting shelf life testing for new product formulations
  • All other duties as assigned

Job Requirements:

PREFERRED CANDIDATE QUALIFICATIONS:

Education and Experience:

  • B.S. in Food Science or related field with 1-3 years of relevant work experience; or M.S. with 0 1 years of relevant experience.  

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Detail oriented self-starter with excellent scientific writing and note taking skills (lab notebook, trial reports, etc.)
  • Able to independently complete basic mathematic calculations as they relate to formulations
  • Experience working in a pilot plant/lab setting is preferred (running analytical equipment, weighing ingredients, etc.)
  • Experience in product development and formulation of beverages preferred 
  • Working knowledge of ingredient interactions highly preferred
  • Knowledge of experimental design and food sensory evaluation techniques highly preferred
  • Must be able to travel as needed to support product development activities, approximate travel requirement is 25%
  • Ability to safely work in a variety of environments including office, laboratory, pilot plant and/or manufacturing plant settings where occupational noise and other hazards may exist. Position requires moderate lifting of up to 25 pounds and occasional lifting above 25 pounds
