    Position Overview:
    This position is primarily responsible for participating in the execution of quality, food safety, food defense and bio-security programs including audits of egg processing, and animal welfare and feed safety/quality as directed.


    Essential Functions:
  • Verifying quality parameters to ensure compliance with Company standards, customer requirements, cGMPs and applicable USDA and FDA regulations
  • Supporting the implementation and maintenance of the HACCP-based Food Safety System and applicable pre-requisite programs
  • Physical, chemical and microbiological testing
  • Environmental monitoring
  • Daily audit of process procedures and records
  • Data input, analysis and reporting
  • Audit and support food safety, quality, feed and Animal Welfare programs
  • Interface with USDA inspector(s) in absence of department manager
  • Perform corrective actions, as needed
  • Train personnel and enforce food safety standards
  • Communicate with local Food Safety and Quality Manager, Director of QS&C and local Plant Management, as needed, for problem identification, out of compliance situations, process improvements and general communications

    Marginal Functions:
  • Assistance and involvement in Production and Milling programs
  • Other tasks, as assigned

Job Requirements

 

Qualifications:

Education:

  • College degree in related field is preferred but not required

    Experience:
  • 2-5 years of experience in addition to, or in lieu of, college degree

    Type of Experience:
  • Animal agriculture, food production, food processing, medical or pharmaceutical fields

    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Must be a hands-on self-starter
  • Good communication skills
  • Ability to train employees
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Thorough knowledge, or ability to attain thorough knowledge, of Food Safety Systems
  • Experience with Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Ability to motivate employees to work within Company parameters
  • Ability to work at any Company area sites routinely
  • Willing and able to work a flexible schedule including being on-call after normal work hours, weekends, some work from home or extended hours on location as deemed necessary by Management
  • Professionalism in appearance and work habits, self-organization, sanitation, management, teamwork and techniques for efficient and cost-effective food production are stressed


    Physical Requirements:
  • Physical dexterity required for entries into the computer system relating to the Accounts Payable function.
    Able to stand /sit for extended periods of time.

    Preferred
  • Experience with Microsoft Access, PowerPoint and Outlook
  • Informal leadership skills
  • Fluent in Spanish

    Physical Requirements:
  • Practice good personnel hygiene and comply with cGMPs such wearing hairnets, gloves, and safety equipment.
  • Good motor skills
  • Ability to lift up to 35 lbs
  • Ability to enter confined space
  • Ability to read, write and speak English
  • Ability to sit or stand for long periods, frequent walking, climb stairs or ladders and squat
  • Ability to use computer, typewriter, telephone and analytical equipment
  • Ability to drive and/or ride in automobile or aircraft
  • Vision and hearing adequate to perform job requirements
  • Occasional travel, some overnight

    Working Conditions:
  • Food processing facility can be wet, warm in the summer, cool in winter and loud. Ear plugs and boots where needed. The farms and mill may be dusty, hot, cold, and dirty. Some exposure to animal agricultural environment. Designated footwear (for the wet and biosecurity conditions), hearing protection and eye wear are required and provided for. Protective clothing is required at the farms.
